The LDS DOCTRINE & COVENANTS
Everlasting or Ever-changing?
A holy book or a book full of holes?
Irene Brocka
STERN WARNING ABOUT DOUBT OR REVISING THESE WORDS! 1:14 "neither give heed to the words of the prophets and apostles, shall be cut off" - To disagree with anything given here means you are on the way to apostasy and leaving all chances for gaining eternal life. Heeding the Lord about prophets: Can a true prophet of God ever give a single false revelation? (See Matthew 7:15-20; Deuteronomy 13:1-5; 18:20-22; Jeremiah 23:16; 27:15; Zechariah 13:2-5). Joseph Smith admitted that some of his were of man or of the devil (Comp. History 1:165). Then how can a person follow such a man as a prophet to know? What is the advantage?
IS GOD IMPARTIAL? 1:35 "For I am no respecter of persons" – This contradicts The Pearl of Great Price, Moses 5:20-21. And we see respect for certain persons in D&C 124:102.
D&C PROMISE OF FULFILLMENT! 1:37-38 "though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same" – There are scores of D&C commandments and prophecies that are not fulfilled. (68:2-4)
TESTING JOSEPH’S URIM AND THUMMIM. Chapter 3 Preface reads "This revelation was given through the Urim and Thummim."
DIRECTION FOR DETERMINING TRUTH! 3:3 "Remember, remember that it is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men:" – Double emphasis to remember. Okay, let’s do it! Logically, this must be applied to all of Joseph Smith’s prophecies and all the history of the LDS. Anything that got frustrated was of man and not God. More places promising the necessary fulfillment of Mormon prophecies: D&C 1:14; 1:37-38; 20:7-8; 42:39; 68:2-4; 132:8,12-14, and the Book of Mormon 1 Nephi 3:7.
PROPHECY ABOUT INDIANS! 3:16-20 "And for this very purpose are these plates preserved . . . that the promises of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he made to his people; And that the Lamanites might come to the knowledge . . . know the promises . . . believe . . . rely . . . that through their repentance they might be saved." – After lots of LDS money, programs to the Indians have failed in a century and a half as most Indians do not become LDS. Many Mormon Indians go inactive. And after at least four generations, the 2 Nephi 30:6 (pre-1981) promise has problems as Mormon Indians are no more white than the non-LDS. (28:8)
CHANGED REVELATION! 5:4 This verse has been changed from the original in what was called "Book of Commandments" (1833 ed.) Chapter IV, vs. 2, p. 10, from March 1829.
CHANGED REVELATION! Chapter 7 differs from the 1833 original edition. Verses 1-7 have 123 added words and part of a sentence is removed. In 1835 the change appeared to read as it does now. So the change was made and approved by Joseph Smith. See original in "Book of Commandments" (1833 ed.) Chapter VI, p. 18, vs. 1-2.
LDS - OR WHAT NAME? 20:1 "The rise of the Church of Christ in these days" - The Mormon god took eight years to decide how to get the LDS name right.
THE FULNESS OF THE GOSPEL? 20:7-8 "Book of Mormon; which contains . . . the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ" – Then why isn’t the whole Mormon gospel in the Book of Mormon? If it has all of the fulness, why are other revelations necessary?
GOD IS ETERNAL, ONLY TRUE GOD, AND TRIUNE! 20:17 reads "we know that there is a God in heaven, who in infinite and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting the same unchangeable God" 20:19 reads "the only living and true God" 20:28 reads "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one God, infinite and eternal, without end." Then who was present at the council of the Gods in the Pearl of Great Price, Abraham 4 etc?
Joseph Smith refuted the Doctrine and Covenants, The Book of Mormon, himself, and the foundation of the LDS church in the King Follet Discourse given at the 1844 general conference (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345-346). The LDS church now stands against this section 20 1830 revelation, also opposing D&C 35:2; 39:1; 50:43; 68:8; 93:3; Book of Mormon Alma 11:28-29, 44; 31:15; 18:4-5, 26-29; 22:8-11; 2 Nephi 31:21; Mormon 7:7; 9:9, 19; Mosiah 3:5-8; 15:3-5; Moroni 9:9; Pearl of Great Price Moses 1:3-6; and the Bible in Deuteronomy 33:27; Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 90:2-3; 93:2; 103:17; Isaiah 43:10; 44:6, 8, 24; Micah 5:2; Malachi 3:6; John 4:24; Hebrews 1:2; 13:8; Revelation 1:8.
DIRECTION FOR WINE IN LDS SACRAMENT! 20:75-79 "It is expedient that the church meet together often to partake of bread and wine in remembrance of the Lord Jesus . . . always remember him . . . sanctify this wine . . . in remembrance of the blood of thy Son" – The revelation is not for the LDS use of water.
OLIVER COWDERY. 23:1-2 "preach the truth from henceforth and forever" – Problem 1) Oliver left the LDS in 1838 for the Methodist Protestant Church in Tiffin, Ohio. Problem 2) Oliver died so it was not forever.
SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH! 24:12 "And I will give unto him strength such as is not known among men" – Speaking of Oliver Cowdery. The world knows of the strength of Samson but who is Oliver?
DIRECTION AGAINST WINE IN LDS SACRAMENT! 27:2-4 "it mattereth not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament . . . you shall not purchase wine" – The change is 40 months after God told them to use wine in 20:75-79.
ADAM-GOD? 27:11 "And also with Michael, or Adam, the father of all, the prince of all, the ancient of days" – The Adam-God doctrine. (107:54)
IS JESUS CHRIST THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH OR ONLY IN THE NAME? 28:6-7 "the head of the church; For I have given him the keys of the mysteries, and the revelations which are sealed, until I appoint another in his stead." – Joseph is the head of the LDS church instead of Jesus (Ephesians 5:23).
WHAT ABOUT CHURCH ORDER? 28:13 "For all things must be done in order, and by common consent in the church, by the prayer of faith." – The 1990 temple endowment ceremony was changed without common consent. Allegedly, it came as a revelation from God according to Apostle John Taylor and Prophet Ezra Taft Benson. (J.D. 23:325; Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, pp. 250-251)
WHERE IS THE ONE GATHERING PLACE? 29 The introduction is the gathering of the elect specified—The imminence of the Lord’s advent affirmed . . . The Millennium and scenes of judgment to follow. The revelation includes: 29:8-11 "decree . . . shall be gathered in unto one place upon the face of the land . . . against the day when tribulation and desolation are sent forth upon the wicked. For the hour is nigh and the day soon at hand when the earth is ripe . . . I will burn . . . the wicked shall not stand." – So why does the one place for the LDS elect continue to change?
Why are Mormons encouraged to remain in their homelands instead of gathering as one? The revelation from Joseph Smith says nigh and soon, meaning the Lord would come as in his lifetime. Now many generations and a century and a half later, the millennium has not come, neither have tribulation and desolation fallen upon those who he calls the wicked. The fulfillment is too late. (84:115-119; 87:8; 104:59; 106:4; 110:16; 130:14-17; 133:17)
DOES THE LDS CHURCH CALL MISSIONARIES? 33:3 "For behold, the field is white already to harvest; and it is the eleventh hour, and the last time that I shall call laborers into my vineyard." – This was a revelation from 1830. The "last time" was not the last time concerning LDS missionaries going on missions.
IS JESUS FROM ALL ETERNITY TO ALL ETERNITY OR NOT? 39:1 "him who is from all eternity to all eternity, the Great I AM, even Jesus Christ" - Well have you prayed about the Book of Mormon being true, because this agrees with its preface page that clearly reads (and with capitalizations for emphasis), "JESUS is the CHRIST, the ETERNAL GOD". Early Joseph Smith taught this, but with time he was not sure. D&C 121:28 says "nothing shall be withheld, whether there be one God or many gods". The year then was 1839. And later he definitely taught the plurality of gods.
PREDICTIONS FULFILLED. 42:39 "For it shall come to pass, that which I spake by the mouths of my prophets shall be fulfilled" – Exactly, if it’s from God! (Deuteronomy 18:20-22)
WHERE IS ZION? DID THE MORMONS TRIUMPH? 45:63-74 "wars in your own lands . . . gather up your riches that ye may purchase an inheritance . . . the New Jerusalem . . . a city of refuge, a place of safety for the saints . . . the wicked will not come unto it, and it shall be called Zion . . . And there shall be gathered unto it out of every nation under heaven . . . the wicked . . . cannot stand . . . the righteous . . . singing with songs of everlasting joy . . . stand afar off and tremble." – The LDS claim this is fulfilled by the Civil War.
But being plural, what were the other wars? Was there such wealth as to be called riches? What is the inheritance? Was it really a place of refuge? How safe were the Mormons? Did all nations go there? When was it the only place of no war? Were the enemies afraid to stand? Did they stand afar off and tremble? Were all nations afraid? The preface reads, "Promise of the establishment of the New Jerusalem—Eventual triumph of Zion".
DO THE NATIONS BOW? 49:9-10 "everlasting covenant . . . the nations of the earth shall bow to it" – Do the nations of the earth bow to the Mormon gospel such as temple marriage? Although governments are cursed by Mormon scriptures, none including the USA are bowing or brought low to the Mormons.
POLYGAMY? 49:16 "it is lawful that he should have one wife" – (1831) Yet Joseph Smith secretly married over 40 women, from as young as Elizabeth Smart, and some of the women were married to men still living at that time. (Book of Mormon, Jacob 2:23-29; 3:5)
WHERE IS ZION? THE TEMPLE SPOT. 57:1-3 "Missouri . . . appointed . . . gathering of the saints . . . land of promise . . . city of Zion . . . Independence . . . spot for the temple. . . not far from the court-house." – This revelation names the exact location that is Zion. D&C 3:3 gives us the rule for determining whether this was from man or from God. Totally frustrated, the Mormons were driven out. There are few LDS in Independence today, rather many of the Mormon sects, RLDS or Community of Christ, and others. Utah is 950 miles west, so how can it be Zion?
WHERE IS ZION? PRESERVED IN MISSOURI. 62:1,6,9 "my church, saith the Lord . . . your advocate, who knoweth . . . how to succor them who are tempted . . . promise might be fulfilled . . . you should be preserved and rejoice together in the land of Missouri. I, the Lord, promise the faithful and cannot lie. . . . Behold, the kingdom is yours." – The preface calls this Zion. If the LDS god does not help the tempted, not keep his promises, not preserve his people, cannot be depended upon to be faithful, and is a god who deceives when he says he won’t lie to them, then why should one believe this is "my church" (verse 1)? Read LDS history from 1837-1847 and you will see how this Joseph Smith revelation was a total failure. His god lied.
They were indeed frustrated (D&C 3:3) as two years after the prophecy, they were driven out! Homes were burned! Several were killed! They did not "rejoice" but they ran! The kingdom was not theirs! God was not with them! So how was Joseph Smith a true prophet of God? Is it evident here that he knew the true God?
PROMISE OF FULFILLMENT. 68:2-4 "all those who were ordained unto this priesthood . . . And whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost shall be scripture . . . the will of the Lord . . . the mind of the Lord . . . the word of the Lord . . . the voice of the Lord . . . power of God unto salvation." – So we see if you are wrong on any of this, you are wrong on salvation. The word of these men is obligated to come true (1:37-38). Incidentally, former LDS leaders differ from the current ones.
Then weren’t the former prophets moved upon by the Holy Ghost to give God’s Word? If not, why did they teach it as being God’s Word? There are massive changes, so for the LDS this is subjective. How do you know if God is speaking? Is a consensus of the members conclusively deciding? That is not the way of determining truth. The LDS faith still relies upon "prophets", or the words of men. So viewing the history, how can you know if the modern day prophets are right? Will their doctrines be declared false by the LDS leaders of the future?
WHERE IS ZION? POSSESSING ZION FROM GENERATIONS FOREVER. 69:8 "be for the good of the church, and for the rising generations that shall grow up on the land of Zion, to possess it from generation to generation, forever and ever." – The preface calls it Independence, Missouri. Not possessing it, how can you say this revelation is from a true prophet? "For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven" (Psalm 119:89). Bible scripture is established forever, but Joseph Smith’s word could not established for a single generation! Be sure about God, who He is, how to know Him, and what is His Word! If Joseph Smith is right, he is right for all eternity; but if he is wrong, he is wrong for all eternity!
DEFEND YOUR FAITH! 71:6-10 "power . . . confound your enemies; call upon them to meet you both in public and in private; and inasmuch as ye are faithful their shame shall be made manifest. . . . let them bring forth their strong reasons . . . no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper . . . he shall be confounded" – Mormons continually disobey this "scripture". Elders are reluctant to talk except to prospective converts. Prophets, bishops, and members shun discussing their faith with Christians both publicly and privately as hundreds of ministries are knowledgeable about the religion. Why not confound us?
For Christians the Bible is our irresistible weapon. We can use LDS materials like the Doctrine and Covenants to expose the inconsistencies of Mormonism, so that is why it is kept from Christians. Bible truth prospers as thousands are leaving the religion. Pretending to ignore this revelation, the LDS are not fulfilling their scripture or obedient to all of the LDS commandments. There is no record of a time of mass confusion among non-Mormons. And for the record, Independence, MO and Hancock County, IL also formed weapons against the LDS who had been trusting this revelation and got driven out.
WHERE IS ZION? GENERATION OF THE TEMPLE. 84:1-5, 31 "revelation . . . by the mouth of prophets . . . Mount Zion . . . appointed by the finger of the Lord . . . Missouri, and dedicated by the hand of Joseph Smith, Jun. . . . the city New Jerusalem . . . temple shall be reared in this generation . . . shall not pass away . . . a cloud shall rest upon it" – (1832) Problems: The Mormon church needs men over 160 years old to slap brick and mortar for that temple to be completed by that generation. The LDS can’t buy the spot as "Church of Christ, Temple Lot" owns the land. And that Mormon sect will not sell it to the LDS church. The LDS often deny that there is a specific place for the temple, but it is near the court-house (57:1-3).
The Mormons who own the land have the marker stones from the dedication service that was a year earlier on August 3, 1831. The LDS have no temple. The RLDS or Community of Christ have a temple but on the wrong spot. The LDS often deny the definition of a generation, but LDS Orsan Pratt in 1870 said the prophecy was to be fulfilled by the 1832 generation. J.D. 9:71; 10:344; 13:362. And the Mormon Apostle George Q. Cannon said a generation is 30 years. Compare J.D. 10:344; 11:269; 13:138 & 362, 17:111. (Note: I talked to an interested LDS missionary at the visitor’s center a block from this temple site for over an hour and she was so interested because she had conspicuously never heard of this prophecy.)
MORMONISM OR ELSE! 84:114-119 "go into the city of New York . . . Albany . . . Boston, and warn the people of those cities . . . desolation and utter abolishment which await them if they do reject these things . . . their judgment is nigh . . . the desolation of abomination in the last days . . . I will rend the kingdoms; I will not only shake the earth, but the starry heavens shall tremble . . . a little while . . . I will come and reign" – (see verses 94-98). Joseph Smith and Newell K. Whitney preached there but the cities did not turn to Mormonism. And the LDS church is still small there today. The cities threatened by the LDS god were to be soon destroyed, but it proved to be a false warning and unwarranted. Why did that god never keep his word to come and reign? (29:9-11; 87:8; 104:59; 106:4; 110:16; 130:14-17; 133:17)
CIVIL WAR PROPHECY! 87:1-8 "wars that will shortly come . . . war shall be poured out upon all nations . . . slaves shall rise up against their masters . . . war . . . remnants . . . become exceedingly angry, and shall vex the Gentiles with a sore vexation . . . famine, and plague, and earthquake . . . thunder . . . lightning . . . feel the wrath . . . a full end of all nations . . . saints . . . avenged . . . the day of the Lord . . . cometh quickly" – Joseph Smith’s prophecy from 30 years before the Civil War, December 25, 1832.
Why is this not impressive? South Carolina threatened to secede from the U.S. so there were speculations about civil war. South Carolina was in rebellion against an act of congress imposing the tariff of July 1832, declaring it as unacceptable. So President Jackson had the army on alert and the press during the Christmas season warned of war. Even the Mormon’s own paper published the news.
The Civil War was from April 12, 1861 to April 9, 1865, but the Mormons did not publish this prophecy until 19 years after Joseph Smith gave it (1851). Since there was no war for 30 years, it was shelved during his lifetime as irrelevant. Joseph Smith embellished the known news to utter several false prophecies. Great Britain never fought (vs. 3). It never flowed into an international war (vs. 2-3). Only two "nations" were involved, the USA and the Confederate States of America, which was never technically a recognized nation. There is nothing of a war between slaves and their owners (vs. 4).
No full scale war mounted up from the Indian tribes (vs. 5). The awesome worldwide signs from God never happened (vs. 6). There was not an annihilation of all nations (vs. 6). How was the blood of the saints avenged? (vs. 7). It did not lead into the coming of the Lord (vs. 8). More is on this at 29:9-11; 84:115-119; 104:59; 106:4; 110:16; 130:14-17; and 133:17. Joseph Smith was just repeating politicians, current events, and common sense.
PLAGIARIZING ISAIAH! 88:87 "For not many days hence and the earth shall tremble and reel to and fro as a drunken man; and the sun shall hide his face, and shall refuse to give light; and the moon shall be bathed in blood; and the stars shall become exceedingly angry, and shall cast themselves down" – Good math counts the days since 1832. These D&C events were never documented from 1832 nor in over a hundred years to follow. Joseph Smith took an event yet future in Isaiah 13:10 and got himself into trouble by plagiarizing it into his times. He obviously failed.
WORD OF WISDOM BLESSINGS? 89:18-21 "all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments . . . health . . . wisdom . . . great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures . . . run and not be weary . . . walk and not faint . . . destroying angel shall pass by them" – And the chapter preface speaks of "the Word of Wisdom". LDS health is not so unusual. Intelligence is nothing exceptional. Wealth is not impressive. LDS get as tired as anyone. The LDS die as anyone.
Many LDS leaders are dying of degenerative diseases. Likened to Israel’s Passover, the destroying angel does not pass them by as even LDS missionaries die on some of their missions, even in their protective garments. This promise is not working. So the Mormon god does not keep his end of the bargain or the Mormon prophet is a false prophet. Either way is trouble to the Mormon faith.
WHERE IS ZION? WORLDWIDE HONOR. 97:18-26 "Zion . . . shall prosper . . . become very glorious, very great, and very terrible. And the nations of the earth shall honor her . . . cannot fall . . . God is there . . . Zion rejoice . . . wicked shall mourn . . . vengeance cometh speedily upon the ungodly as the whirlwind; and who shall escape it? . . . it shall not be stayed until the Lord come . . . affliction . . . pestilence . . . plague . . . sword . . . vengeance . . . fire . . . blessings upon her, and upon her generations forever and ever" – Zion cannot fall as obedience makes her prosperous, glorious, and great. Do all nations honor Independence, Missouri?
Most have never heard of it! Instead of the LDS being blessed, they were driven out in 1839. They do not own the temple lot. Those people are all dead now and nothing is fulfilled. Mourning and vengeance on non-Mormons has not continued until the Lord comes. There is plenty of room in Missouri, but the Mormons moved anyhow from the Zion that cannot fall because God is there (vs. 19). How is Zion the appointed place that shall not be moved (D&C 101:17-21)? ]
Joseph Smith had to redefine Zion, so he said in 1842, "the whole of America is Zion from north to south" (History of the Church, 6:318). Brigham Young claimed Zion was ". . . at the city of the Great Salt Lake in the valleys of the mountains, in the settlements of Utah territory" (J.D. 2:253). Recent LDS claims are that the 2002 Olympics fulfilled this prophecy. No, people came to honor the Olympic games, not a so-called Zion. In conclusion, Joseph Smith is a false prophet of God or the Mormon god is too weak to keep his promises. In 1838-1839 Zion fell!
WHERE IS ZION? CHASTENED AND REDEEMED. 100:13-15 "I give unto you a word concerning Zion. Zion shall be redeemed, although she is chastened for a little season. . . . let your hearts be comforted" – Chastened and soon redeemed? Language cannot be stretched far enough to make this real. That is like promising Hawaii [before the attack] great comfort that Pearl Harbor and its ships would soon be blessed and redeemed. So, if you are looking for a prophet (and you shouldn’t – Hebrews 1:1-2), why would you want this prophet? And if you happen to be searching for God, why settle for the god of Mormonism? Check the history!
CHANGED REVELATION! 101:4 The 1835 D&C read ". . . we declare that we believe, that one man should have one wife; and one woman but one husband, except in case of death, when either is at liberty to marry again . . ." – The LDS practiced polygamy from 1832 to after 1890. The 1835 reading was scripture until 1876. This simply demonstrates that regarding the Principle and plural marriage, the Mormon church is not to be trusted! Again the Mormon god changed his mind, not to give a new revelation this time but to revise Mormon scripture. Compare the Book of Mormon Jacob 1:15; 2:24; Mosiah 11:2; Ether 10:5. Bible 1 Timothy 3:1-13.
THREATS FROM THE MORMON GOD. 101:11 "Mine indignation is soon to be poured out without measure upon all nations . . ." – Soon is not over a century and a half.
WHERE IS ZION? NO OTHER PLACE! 101:17-21 "Zion shall not be moved . . . shall return . . . inheritances . . . and their children, with songs of everlasting joy, to build up . . . that the prophets might be fulfilled. And, behold, there is none other place appointed . . . neither shall there be . . . for the work of the gathering of the saints—Until the day cometh when there is found no room for them" – This revelation is dated December 16, 1833 and the preface says "Mobs had driven them from their homes . . ." They had been driven out in November and since the people were discouraged, Joseph Smith tried to keep them going by claiming a revelation. The future tense, "neither shall there be any other place" disqualifies Utah.
It states plainly, Zion shall not be moved, but Joseph Smith must have prophesied falsely, or else Salt Lake City cannot be Zion. Why didn’t those who were driven out return for an inheritance with their children if Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God? Persecution never proves that the Jews or Jehovah’s Witnesses or The Branch Dividians are the truth faith. Mormons suffered and the reason was because of their strange and unlawful practices and doctrines. Besides, Christians have suffered more, as you can see by contacting "The Voice of the Martyrs" or by reading "Foxes Book of Martyrs".
WHERE IS ZION? PREVAILING FOREVER! 103:5-7 "decree . . . the Lord . . . they shall . . . begin to prevail against mine enemies from this very hour . . . they shall never cease to prevail until the kingdoms of the world are subdued under my feet, and the earth is given unto the saints, to possess it forever and ever." – The preface adds, from "February 24, 1834 . . . The angel of the Lord and the Lord’s presence to go before the people—Moneys to be collected and sent up to Zion . . ." - Is the LDS god weak, deceptive, or too phony to keep his word? The time span came, is gone, and yet continues. How were their enemies cursed? How have the LDS prevailed? Jesus warned, "Beware of false prophets!" (Matthew 7:15) How can we recognize them? "Ye shall know them by their fruits" (vs. 16-20). What is the "fruit" of a false prophet? Obviously by context, his false prophecies!
WHERE IS ZION? RESTORATION TO THE LAND. 103:13-25 "this is the blessing which I have promised after your tribulations . . . your redemption . . . restoration to the land of Zion, to be established, no more to be thrown down . . . must needs come by power . . . a man . . . as Moses . . . For ye are the children of Israel, and of the seed of Abraham . . . my presence, and in time ye shall possess the goodly land . . . enemies . . . ye shall curse them" – Time for the fulfillment ran out. The way was by power. Joseph Smith organized a Mormon army to rescue Zion’s Camp in Missouri.
The armed crusade failed miserably and so did another of Joseph’s revelations. (See History of the Church, 3:XXXIX) Mormons become Jews here. If "ye shall possess" in verse 20 failed, doesn’t it follow that "my servant Baurak Ale [Joseph Smith, Jun.] is the man" is false too in verse 21? Jesus told us to pray for our enemies, not to curse them. We are not to war as in the Roman Catholic crusades.
THE UNITED ORDER. 104:1-4, 16 "I commanded to be organized and established, to be a united order, and an everlasting order . . . until I come . . . immutable and unchangeable . . . covetousness . . . I have cursed them . . . this is the way that I, the Lord, have decreed to provide . . . poor shall be exalted . . . the rich made low" – Go to only verses 47 or 53 to see how short lived this was.
How could any LDS ever be impressed with the promises and decrees of God after being let down so many times by Mormonism? They were to give all they owned to the bishop’s storehouse and receive from it according to need. Imagine convincing the wealthy LDS to do this today! But it is "everlasting"! The United Order to hold all property in common was tried in several variations yet failed to survive.
THE LORD’S COMING. 104:59 "prepare my people for the time when I shall dwell with them, which is nigh at hand." – Sounds like the Watchtower. (29:9-11; 84:115-119; 87:8; 106:4; 110:16; 130:14-17; 133:17)
DEBTS FORGIVEN? 104:78-83 "pay all your debts . . . inasmuch as you are diligent and humble, and exercise the prayer of faith . . . your deliverance . . . I will soften the hearts to whom you are in debt, that it shall be taken away out of their minds . . . give you victory . . . promise that you will be delivered out of your bondage" – This is a conditional promise, so was Joseph Smith a sinful prophet that it did not work for him? Leaving thousands of dollars of unpaid debts, he filed bankruptcy.
THE POWER OF THE GUN OR THE POWER OF GOD? 105:13-15 "redemption of Zion . . . I do not require at their hands to fight the battles of Zion; for, as I said in a former commandment, even so will I fulfil—I will fight your battles. Behold, the destroyer I have sent forth to destroy and to lay waste mine enemies" – This is June 22, 1834. It ought to be evident that the forgetful god saying "as I said" was Joseph Smith, because the February revelation said in 103:13-25, "Behold, I say unto you, the redemption of Zion must needs come by power . . . ye must needs be led out of bondage by power". The Moses of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, tried to do it. That is why the Mormon army got out there and failed! That destroyer must be incredibly slow since he was already sent! So why did the Mormons disobey this commandment and fight when the Mormon god did not come through? If God says He will "lay waste" His enemies, why was it Joseph Smith soon to die in 1844? Why were the Mormons driven out within five years? Why does history demonstrate that their enemies were not destroyed, in fact their families remain there today. God was defeated through this battle he promised to win. What god? Perhaps the real destroyer was simply a man named Porter Rockwell.
THE LORD’S COMING! 106:4 "the coming of the Lord draweth nigh" – (29:9-11; 84:115-119; 87:8; 104:59; 110:16; 130:14-17; 133:17) Unfulfilled promises! No wonder people begin to say after all the false expectations, "Where is the promise of his coming?" (2 Peter 3:4)
WORLDWIDE FAME OF THE KIRTLAND TEMPLE! 110:10,16 "And the fame of this house shall spread to foreign lands . . . dreadful day of the Lord is near, even at the doors" - The preface notes that he was visited by Elias and Elijah. How - as they are the same person? Joseph Smith got this vision in the Kirtland temple "After rising from prayer . . ." So how dependable is it to be in a temple or to pray to an undependable god, much as the LDS continue to pray about the Book of Mormon? And whoever heard of the Kirtland temple? It’s fame or existence was news to me!
Need we go to foreign lands and ask if they heard of it? As Vatican City to the Roman Catholics, but less, the LDS are rather known for the temple in Salt Lake City. And this prophesied "dreadful day" - when? Perhaps the dread was as the LDS were being driven out within two and half years. And has the Lord come after a century and a half? Those are false prophecies! (29:9-11; 84:115-119; 87:8; 104:59; 106:4; 130:14-17; 133:17)
SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS SURRENDERS ITS WEALTH? Chapter 111 "I have much treasure in this city for you . . . many people in this city . . . I will give this city into your hands, that you shall have power over it . . . its wealth pertaining to gold and silver shall be yours. . . . my Spirit, that shall flow unto you . . . more treasures" – Again he wrongly comforts them about Zion (vs. 6). This is real news to the people of Salem! This revelation was given when Joseph, Hyrum, Rigdon, and Cowdery arrived in Salem to go house to house while investigating a rumor that a great sum was available for the LDS church.
And they left there without riches. They left without power over the city. They left without many people, as they only baptized 13 from the whole city. They left without gaining control, returning to Kirkland without the funds to pay their debts (vs. 5). Need we say more? It follows then that they left without God’s Spirit (vs. 8). Breathtakingly clear, this is just another false prophecy! This is not like comparing Joseph Smith in the World Series as he throws a couple of poor pitches and loses a game. Look at his season records! Rather he failed as a prophet at every hand, like losing every game and finishing at the bottom of the league of prophets as a total failure. Compare him to the Bible prophets who never missed God’s truth by being wrong through even a single word! (Deuteronomy 18:20-22)
LOSING THE KEYS! 112:15,19 "my servant Joseph . . . the keys which I have given unto him, and also to youward, shall not be taken from him till I come . . . in whatsoever place ye shall proclaim my name an effectual door shall be opened unto you, that they may receive my word." – If the keys belong to Joseph Smith until the Lord comes, the LDS cannot be led by an authorized man. And killed in 1844, the Lord has not come, so how is that true?
The "keys" were taken from him and given to Brigham Young and that generation remains in their graves. No Jesus appearing! What happened? Who is "youward"? The preface seems to say his 12 apostles. If Thomas B. Marsh, then why didn’t the LDS god know his heart since he was to be excommunicated in two years. There are not legitimate LDS keys until Jesus comes! And what kind of effectual door is opened to Mormons? Ask any LDS missionary – there are many places where the doors are not opened as they are not welcomed.
A DEAD MAN’S MISSION. 114:1-2 "Verily thus saith the Lord . . . my servant David W. Patten . . . perform a mission unto me next spring, in company of others, even twelve" – This was given on April 17, 1838. How in the world does this find itself as "scripture? Patten obviously went on no mission, since he was killed in October of that year at the Battle of Crooked Creek, Missouri. Was the Lord maybe surprised to find him unworthy, so God killed him? That does not fit as Joseph Smith called him a very worthy man! (History of the Church, 3:171,175) Second false prophecy: The 12 did not go into all the world. Excuse: Does this teach that Patten would teach in the spirit world? No, as he was to teach "in company of others, even twelve", and none of those guys were killed. He would have been alone.
COMMANDED TO FINISH THE FAR WEST TEMPLE! 115:1,7-12,17 "the city, Far West, be a holy and consecrated land . . . I command you to build a house unto me . . . beginning . . . this following summer . . . one year . . . laying the foundation . . . labor diligently until it shall be finished . . . speedily" – How can the LDS claim the common expectation to obey the Lord and follow His commandments? The failure is too evident! Here is an absolute command! And after a century and a half the Far West temple was frustrated, being a work of man and not ever of God from the beginning (D&C 3:3). They did not finish it, although they had elaborate ceremonies, laying the cornerstone in 1838. (See A Comprehensive History of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, B.H. Roberts, p. 440) Far West was abandoned by the LDS soon after this revelation. No obedience! No diligence! Not finished! Not a temple! Not speedily! Never stayed! So never commanded by God! The God of the Bible has never failed and never will!
OLIVER GRANGER REMEMBERED FOREVER! 117:12-15 "I remember my servant Oliver Granger . . . his name shall be had in sacred remembrance from generation to generation, forever and ever, saith the Lord. . . . forever and ever" – Who is this mystery man? Forgotten! Probably 99 out of 100 Mormons never heard of him. Non-Mormons never heard of him unless they study Mormonism. He stayed true to the LDS church, so that could not be the excuse for this failure.
TRIUMPH OR SWEPT FROM UNDER HEAVEN? 121:5-15, 26-27 "with thy sword avenge us of our wrongs . . . thou shalt triumph over all they foes . . . thy friends do not contend against thee, neither charge thee with transgression, as they did Job. And they who do charge thee with transgression, their hope shall be blasted, and their prospects fall away . . . God . . . change the times and the seasons, and to blind their minds . . . cut off; And not many years hence, that they and their posterity shall be swept from under heaven . . . not one of them is left . . . knowledge . . . that has not been revealed since the world was until now" – The preface notes that this is a prayer and prophecy from jail.
If faith can make prison walls tumble (BofM, Mormon 8:24), why did Joseph Smith spend so long in prison? Many prophecies are listed here, but none come to pass. Were they avenged by the sword or driven out? Did Joseph’s friends not charge him? They did! Within a few years, the Nauvoo Expositor led towards his arrest and destruction. Was the promise true that they should triumph over their foes? Never as they were driven from Missouri and Joseph Smith was to die in five years!
Then the LDS church was to flee for Utah in eight years! The federal government was never blasted for forcing LDS changes regarding polygamy and later racism. When did God change the times and seasons? When were the minds of their enemies blinded? When were they cut off? When were they swept away to anyplace? Most of those people outlived Joseph Smith! Where is the great knowledge, as comparable among Christian Bible scholars who study the Greek and Hebrew?
ONE GOD OR MANY GODS? 121:28 "nothing shall be withheld, whether there be one God or many gods" – (1839) Compare the D&C 20:17,19,28; 39:1. Mormonism is cut-and-paste as Mormonism changes its god. We find the correct teaching in The Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 31:21; Alma 11:44; and The Testimony of Three Witnesses, that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit are one God - not to be confused with phrases like "one Godhead of three gods". Yet Mormon Doctrine says the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are indeed three gods. Do Mormons worship three gods? Whether Jesus is God or not God to the LDS, it depends upon your conversation as people don’t know. Which then is the one God worshiped by Mormons? Is He Jesus as rightfully worshiped in Matthew 28:9,17? Yet to be a God you have to have a body and be married in a temple. So Jesus Christ was married according to the LDS. "The Father has a body of flesh and bones" (D&C 130:22). So how was the Holy Ghost married to be a God and have a body? Moroni supposedly followed the LDS gospel, but he stayed an angel, never making it into Godhood. Why? And why did Joseph Smith in his early days believe Jesus is the same person as the Father? (Modalism heresy in the Book of Mormon, Mosiah 15:1-5; Alma 11:38-39; Ether 3:14). Mormon theology deepens the maze to say God the Father has God parents. God was a sinner who needed to progress. What does that say about Jesus becoming God?
The God of this planet has goddess wives, one being our heavenly mother. So why does God say, I don’t know her! (Isaiah 44:8) This goddess gave birth to spirit children, Jesus and the devil being two of our brothers. And there is a whole council of Gods in the Pearl of Great Price, Abraham 4-5. Correctly stated, Jesus is the eternal God in the Book of Mormon preface. But then finally at the end of Joseph Smith’s life, he evolved to say LDS men are Gods in embryo who become Gods.
Isn’t this exactly what Satan wants you to believe (Genesis 3:5)? Isn’t this exactly what God forewarned about regarding any prophet who goes after other gods in Deuteronomy 13:1-5? For protection and purity of doctrine here, we do not kill them in this age of grace but God wants us to censure their teachings! Then for 25 years, Brigham Young led the LDS and never knew God, teaching the Mormons that Adam is God.
JOSEPH’S WORLDWIDE FAME? 122:1-3 "The ends of the earth shall inquire after thy name . . . thy people shall never be turned against thee by the testimony of traitors" – The preface says it is the word of the Lord to Joseph Smith while in the Liberty jail in 1839 and "The Son of Man had likewise suffered" – Many people have never heard of Joseph Smith and many who do will never hear the truth. He did have friends who turned against him as noted by the actions of the Nauvoo Expositor. And what arrogance to compare whatever his hardships to the sufferings of Jesus Christ!
THE POWER OF A SEAL! 124:20-21 "George Miller is without guile; he may be trusted because of the integrity of his heart . . . I seal upon his head the office of a bishopric" – The so-called seal may have lasted just a bit longer than most Mormon "sealings". The LDS god did not know his heart as he was to be excommunicated seven years later. "At a meeting held in the great Salt Lake City fort, fellowship was withdrawn from Apostle Lyman Wright and Bishop George Miller." (Church Chronology, p. 36, Dec. 3, 1848) God was wrong – or the prophecy of a man acclaimed to be a prophet was wrong? (D&C 3:3)
LDS BAPTISMS UNACCEPTABLE! 124:27-36 "build a house . . . baptismal font . . . baptized for the dead . . . sufficient time . . . But behold, at the end of this appointment your baptisms for your dead shall not be acceptable unto me; and if you do not these things at the end of the appointment ye shall be rejected as a church . . . your baptisms for your dead cannot be acceptable unto me" – This is a prophetic ultimatum for Nauvoo. The commandment from the LDS god ends to be frustration, or the work of men (D&C 3:3). Some historians say the temple was never finished before it was burned down. When Joseph Smith was shot in 1844, it had not been finished. The time appointed got stretched out. This means the LDS work of baptisms is really not acceptable! But if the prophecy is not false, the LDS needs to be rejected as a church (vs. 32).
DO NOT BUILD THE ZION TEMPLE! 124:49-54 "it behooveth me to require that work no more . . . I accepted the offerings of those who I commanded to build up a city and a house unto my name, in Jackson county, Missouri, and were hindered by their enemies" – Now in 1841 they are not to build the temple. Why did the God who commanded the building not understand that it could not be done? Does that sound like a mortal god? 1 Nephi 3:7 says when God gives a commandment, He provides a way. So is the Book of Mormon wrong? As with revelations to build, the Mormon god gives lots of impotent threats.
OWNING THE NAUVOO HOUSE FOREVER! 124:56-60 "boarding house . . . let it be built unto my name, and let my name be named upon it, and let my servant Joseph and his house have place therein, from generation to generation . . . let my servant Joseph and his seed after him have place in that house, from generation to generation, forever and ever . . . called Nauvoo House" – Another revelation from the LDS prophet failed. His family did not keep it in the family forever, whether not taking him seriously, not obeying LDS scripture, or just not knowing the God who is trustworthy and strong. Joseph did not live in it. Emma was living in it at her death. The RLDS or Community of Christ Missouri group owns it. And it is not called by God’s name.
PROMISES ABOUT KIRTLAND! 124:83 "I, the Lord, will build up Kirtland . . . have a scourge prepared for the inhabitants" – Kirtland is to be built up for the LDS and non-Mormons will be scourged? The fulfillment failed as the Mormons, except for the few, did not return there. No one was scourged. (Still surprised?) The reorganized group holds the title to the temple.
ZARAHEMLA, IOWA? 125:1-4 "Iowa . . . appoint . . . build up a city unto my name upon the land opposite the city of Nauvoo, and let the name of Zarahemla be named upon it" – Why is this even printed as a revelation? Zarahemla, Iowa never existed! How interesting that the LDS question whether the Bible is translated correctly to be trusted, when these "scriptures" are given in plain English and many of them don’t make sense at all! Kirtland, Independence, Nauvoo, Zarahemla all failed! The promises and prophecies were all false! Would you trust these "scriptures" or this LDS god for eternal life?
JOSEPH SMITH’S TRIUMPH? 127:2 "for to this day has the God of my fathers delivered me out of them all, and will deliver me from henceforth; for behold, and lo, I shall triumph over all my enemies, for the Lord God hath spoken it." – In less than two years this was proven false (July 27, 1844). How is dying in a gun battle a triumph?
JESUS COMING BY 1890! 130:14-17,22 "coming of the Son of Man . . . voice . . . Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man . . . the coming of the Son of Man" – Did Joseph Smith think he was so important that the Lord’s coming was conditional upon him. Didn’t the Mormon god know how long he would live? Or really, was it only Joseph who did not know? It seems like a convenient way to slip out of accountability, considering a man’s likelihood of dying before 85. Would the Lord come in 1890, when Joseph was 85?
See History of the Church, 5:336, as Joseph Smith said the coming of the Lord would be in 56 years (about 1891). The LDS church deleted some of the proof but it is in the original of Joseph Smith’s diary. Excuse: Could this simply be Joseph Smith inquiring about the second coming of Christ (vs. 14)? Then the end of verse 16 would not make sense. It is very clear what Joseph Smith meant in the D&C 29:9-11; 84:115-119; 87:8; 104:59; 106:4; 110:16; and 133:17.
POLYGAMY FOREVER! 132:1-6 "as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines . . . obey the instructions . . . I reveal unto you a new and everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter my glory" – This is really nothing new as Joseph Smith had already been practicing it. The everlasting practice only lasted about 50 years.
Work of God or work of man (D&C 3:3)? John Taylor, the 3rd LDS president knew this teaching and declared that the LDS church would never give up plural marriage. Wouldn’t he have the right to think so if the revelation was expected to be true? Polygamy was practiced secretly through lying and deceit until 1852 and then openly until 1890.
NO CONFUSION IN GOD’S HOUSE? 132:8 "mine house is a house of order, saith the Lord God, and not a house of confusion" – Haven’t we seen enough prophetic confusion in LDS scripture and the failure of this god? What is the difference between Mormonism and Christianity? The LDS god is unfaithful, God is constant. The LDS scriptures are untrustworthy, the Bible is complete. The LDS prophets are undependable, the Lord’s prophets are correct. The LDS gospel is unbelievable, and Christ’s gospel is credible.
WHAT IS LASTING IS OF THE LORD? 132:12-14 "whatsoever they may be, that are not by me or by my word, saith the Lord, shall be thrown down, and shall not remain after men are dead . . . For whatsoever things remain are by me; and whatsoever things are not by me shall be shaken and destroyed" – Look how much of Joseph Smith’s prophecy was directed towards a temple in Independence, Missouri that was never built! (D&C 3:3)
LAW OR GRACE? 132:21,33 "except ye abide my law ye cannot attain to this glory . . . if ye enter not into my law ye cannot receive the promise of my Father, which he made unto Abraham" – This contradicts the Bible as in Galatians 2:16; 3:10-11.
WARNING AGAINST EMMA SMITH! 132:52-54 "Emma Smith, receive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph . . . made ruler over many things . . . I will strengthen him . . . abide and cleave . . . But if she will not abide this commandment she shall be destroyed" – The preface dates this as July 12, 1843 on "plurality of wives". Joseph as a "ruler" was at the height of his power and was clearly coveting more control.
His revelation conveniently threatens his wife much as a hostage in from of the whole church if she complains, but she resented polygamy. Was he right to prophesy that she would be destroyed? Wrong again! He was shot within a year, but she lived to be an elderly woman, still hating polygamy and joining her son who led another Mormon sect that ruled against polygamy.
LAW JUSTIFYING JOSEPH SMITH’S POLYGAMY! 132:62 "And If he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified" – This contradicts D&C 1835, Section 101. So the LDS god cannot decide. Obviously, the one initiating polygamy for the LDS was wrong about many things (i.e. Emma’s destruction), had a problem of continually prophesying in error, was self-serving, and could certainly not to be trusted on this subject. The whole foundation of plural marriage was against the Illinois law and was never from God.
MORE OR NO MORE ON POLYGAMY? 132:66 "law . . . I will reveal more" – The Lord has already spoken in the finished revelation of the Bible, so God never had more to reveal as His scripture. Who had more to say? Joseph Smith clearly had more to say to justify his adulteries. The LDS have not claimed any substantial revelations, except to surrender to the national demand and to call it a revelation.
THE LORD’S COMING! 133:17 "for the hour of his coming is nigh" – Time is clearly the greatest enemy of a false prophet. (29:9-11; 84:115-119; 87:8; 104:59; 106:4; 110:16; 130:14-17)
SMITE THE ROCKS? 133:26 "they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence" – So much of Joseph’s writing mixes words from the Bible. Sounds like Moses a little bit, but what does this mean? How can the LDS church claim it has taken place?
THE NATIONS TREMBLE BEFORE MORMONS? 133:42 "all nations shall tremble at they presence" – So how do you "feel" about this? This would make a good topic for the next LDS General Conference. Try to convince anyone that the nations tremble at the presence of Mormons and they will say you are mad.
JOSEPH SMITH – PERFECT PROPHET? 3:6,9-10; 5:21; 6:35; 20:5; 24:2; 29:3; 93:47; 110:5; 132:56,60 "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect" (Matthew 5:48). Checking the dates and verses of these sections in the Doctrine and Covenants, we see Joseph Smith was in continual sin for 15 years. Even by LDS standards, then how could he possibly have made it into the Celestial Heaven to live with Heavenly Father?
NO, THANK YOU, I DO NOT CARE FOR ANOTHER BOOK OF MORMON AS I ALREADY HAVE ONE! Then perhaps we should add, "But I would be happy to have a copy the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price!"
Why would do the LDS freely give one of their "scriptures" and not the other two? Probably because the Book of Mormon sounds more Christian while the others do not.
It’s like offering the King James Bible instead of the Joseph Smith Translation. Why? Isn’t the JST supposed to be correct? Because the JST and the D&C are so clearly recognized as man-made books! They don’t want you to have them.
