A Note From Ed

Thank you for being part of the ministry of Saints Alive. We are so grateful for your support, your standing with us in this vital ministry, and your prayers, your intercessions on behalf of the work of this ministry. More important than "us" are the many thousands of people seeking truth in areas of spiritual confusion and darkness.

Please keep me in your prayers as I re-enter the busy ministry that has been waiting for my return. I am at the point where my strength is coming back and the needs are so great. There are schedules that require my attention and I am eager to be in the midst of the battle for souls. Now let me give you a look at some of the great news here at the ministry.

Our Board met recently and officially recognized our son, Jason, as a welcome member of our staff. I am so delighted to have him at my side, with all his ideas, new insights and endless energy. And yes, that wonderful zeal for souls! I remember him as a young child holding onto my leg as we witnessed and handed out tracts in the streets of Utah 20 years ago. Time sure flies when you are having fun!

As a ministry, we have committed to return to Utah with some of that new energy. To that end, we will be having another CAPSTONE conference in Salt Lake this next summer, in late June. We will be announcing it each Newsletter until then. The dates will probably be June 24-27th. Jason will also be leading a summer missionary team into Utah, with a focus on reaching the youth.

Tom Bauer, our reactivated Missions Director was here for a week of planning and fellowship and by next summer, we will have a training center in operation in Hawaii, through the facilities of Tom and Cindy’s home church, Grace Bible (in Honolulu). Isileli and Evelyn Taukolo, our missionaries in Tonga, will be here for a week in November, as we finalize a missionary trip to Tonga with many of the youth of our home church for a Youth Revival there during Easter week.

Pray for our vision to not only focus on these actions, but that it increases as we walk through these and dozens of other doors of ministry opportunity for the work of the Lord.

I have just signed off on the final galleys for a new, revised and expanded God Makers book which be coming out by the end of the year and work on a new video series, The Miracle Of Manti, and The Gods of Paradise, produced by Dr. John Boyd, is almost complete and I will be doing a large number of radio shows promoting them.

I have one bit of good news. I went to my cardiologist last week for a first checkup after my recent illness. I had been off almost all my heart medicine since my surgery in June [ I felt so much better without it} and knew he was going to be an unhappy fellow. After taking x-rays, and an EKG, he spent a long time looking at them and listening to my heart .

Finally, he said, "Ed, you are the luckiest guy in the world. Your heart is working perfectly. There is nothing wrong with it. Don’t go back on the medication. Go home and check in again in 6 months."

Well, Doc, it isn’t luck...It is Jesus the healer and the prayers of faith on my behalf.

Well, The Lord is our healer. When I was laying there in the hospital in a comma, and on life support equipment, my family, knowing God’s Word in the matter, called upon the elders of our church. My pastors came and, according to James 5:14-15, prayed over me, anointed me with oil and prayed those prayers of faith and I was truly raised up.

As you will see by Jason’s article this month, we count prayer as the main ingredient of our ministry because the Word says it is and because it bears the most fruit. If you have prayer needs, drop a note on the back of your return card and let us pray for you and with you.

 Smashing the Wall

by Jason Decker

A true intercessor does two things:

Go to God for the lost

and go to the lost for God.

During the past few months I have noticed the familiar frustration of desperate Christians who call or write us seeking a breakthrough for a loved one lost in the LDS Church or Masonic Lodge. Most have made several "failed" attempts at trying to communicate the basic fundamental errors in Mormonism or Freemasonry but end up in heated arguments or off on some tangent. No matter how well studied the Christian or friendly the conversation, it is all too common that we find ourselves "hitting our heads against a wall."

It is very important to have a solid foundation of doctrine (1 Tim 4:16) in order to use it while you witness. But, there is much more to seeing a loved one saved than witnessing. Most people do not relate to theology or doctrine and that is why we have so many cults today. Those deceived by Mormon and Masonic doctrines, have been sold a counterfeit when they were looking for the real thing. Faith is too simple compared with the Law. "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." 1 Cor 1:18 (NIV)

In our natural understanding "hitting the wall" doesn’t make sense because the Gospel is really simple (keep it that way!). The Gospel is veiled to our loved ones and there comes a point where nothing you show them regarding basic doctrine will take things any further.

In Ephesians, the Bible shows us why and how this happens. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Eph 6:12 (NIV)

You must not let spiritual battle intimidate you! Jesus has given us His authority over spirits. "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." Luke 10:19-20 (NIV)

Hitting the wall can happen even when we use Jesus’ name. This isn’t a time to be discouraged, but a time to PRAY!! "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say unto you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. " However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." Matt. 17:20-21 (NKJ)

What is your goal in reaching out to a loved one or friend? Is it to convince them by scripture that they are wrong and you are right? No. Of course not! The goal is to be as transparent as you can and allow God to reveal Himself through you to that person. It is not you convincing them of God, but introducing them to God. Every person needs their own personal revelation of Jesus Christ, not just in Word, but in person. "O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me." Mark 9:19 (NKJ) They need to seek and ask of God themselves.

What to Pray: "Smashing the Wall"

1. Open their Eyes:

Acts 26:17b-18: "I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me."(NIV)

2. Awakening in Their Heart:

2 Tim 2:25-26: "Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will."(NIV)

3. God’s Will be Accomplished in Their Life:

Romans 12:2:"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is— his good, pleasing and perfect will." (NIV)

John 5:14-15: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And if we know that He hears us— whatever we ask— we know that we have what we asked of Him."

4. God will open a Door to reach Them:

Col 4:3-6: "And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." (NIV)

Prayer Tactics:

Prayer is not something we do,

but a Lifestyle.

1. Pray the way Jesus said to: Matt 6:9-15 "This, then, is how you should pray: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

This is not a repetitious 15 second prayer. Think of it as an outline that has a specific order. First start with Praising God, Second Pray for God’s will and that YOU come inside it. Pray for His will to be manifested. Ask God for both spiritual renewal and physical provision. Then ask Him for conviction, and cleansing as you repent. Pray for His protection over yourself, family, belongings etc. Then look for anything between you and the lost person, i.e. bitterness, anger, pride, etc.… confess and cover with His cleansing Blood. Then pray for needs, salvations and other breakthroughs. Close with thanksgiving and praise.

2. Pray on the Armor of God (Eph. 6:10-12,18) before you engage in spiritual warfare.

3. Pray with someone: Mark 6:7, Deut 32:30, Jn. 8:17, Heb.11:37

4. Pray with Scriptures: 1Thes 2:13 "And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe." (NIV)

5. Pray Consistently and "Fervently" (James 5:16).

6. Set aside a daily special time and place (Matt. 6:6) that minimizes distraction.

7. Use a prayer list, prayer journal or plan to make good use of time, being detailed and thorough for everyone you pray for.

8. Use the A.C.T.S. format:

(Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication).

9. Call or Write Saints Alive and your local Church and put your loved one on a Prayer Chain/List.

Spiritual Warfare:

Whether or not your friend or loved one is a Christian believer, they have evidently been blinded by Satan. You need to pray in a specific way, doing spiritual warfare against the demonic blindness which has taken him.

2 Cor. 4:3-4 says that "if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."(KJV)

This illustrates the problem that those in both Mormonism and Masonry have—it is difficult to discuss reasonably the faith with them because of the spiritual darkness which blinds them. This is what makes them so difficult to witness to, and why prayer is the key. We must wrestle spiritually with the Masonic principalities and powers (Eph.6:12). "Baal," "Hiram Abiff" and "Tubalcain" are key demonic principalities which blind the Freemason. Likewise, "Mormo," the Satanic god of the dead and "Moroni," the false messenger, and Mechizedek, (priestcraft) are key demonic principalities of Mormonism. You must take authority over them as a believer in Christ and bind their influence away from that friend or loved one, at least for a season (Mt. 16:19, 18:18). As I said earlier, if you can find others in a prayer group or your church to agree in prayer with you, so much the better! (Mt.18:20)

You need to use your authority as a believer to literally cast out the demons which may be oppressing him/her/them at least for a short time—long enough for you to share the truth!(Mk.16:17) You need to pray against these deceitful spirits in advance, perhaps for weeks.

As Paul writes in 2 Cor.10:4-5: "The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." (KJV) Pray like this, and "soften the soil" upon which you are going to scatter your seeds for awhile before you approach the battle.

Finally, remember that the wall is there because of the enemy. It was not erected by God. The Lord told us that the gates of hell will not prevail against His church. Why worry then about some wall. We are His church and if the gates of hell will not hold us back then we should not be too concerned about this thing. We can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us!

USA TODAY

Warm and Fuzzy

The October 21, 1997 edition of USA Today had one of the more notable puff pieces on Mormonism to hit the streets in a long while. With pictures and testimonies of missionaries, converts all that good stuff, they even had a section on just what made the Mormons a little different from the rest of Christianity. Unfortunately, none of the true differences were mentioned.

I sent this letter in response:

Dear Editor, Katy Kelly's warm and fuzzy feature on the Mormons and their missionary program certainly projected the LDS church's PR "happy people picture", that they are wonderful, caring Christians with a few little differences. But the article carefully avoided going beyond the glossy overspray. Yes, the Mormon people are a pretty nice group of folks, but they are not orthodox Christians, not even close.

In the "Christian, But Different" inset, Kelly failed to note that to

the Mormons, all the creeds of Christianity are abominations (filthy) in God's sight, (Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith 2:19), that the members of all other churches are in the church of the devil, which is the whore of all the earth (Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 14:10, and that there is no salvation outside Mormonism.

She also failed to note that the "other" god of Mormonism presently lives with his many goddess wives on a planet near the great star, Kolob (PGP, Abraham 3: 2-3). The missionaries she interviewed apparently forgot to tell her that their founding prophet, Joseph Smith was a false prophet, running about a 90% failure rate with his "thus saith the Lord's.." or the sacred underwear with the Masonic emblems sewn in that they must wear in order to get to that Celestial Kingdom on high.

How do I know? I’ve been there, done that! Great people, Yes..... Orthodox Christians...hardly!

It’s A Quark, XPress V3.32

No, It isn’t some cultic ritual I am describing but a software program that we truly need right now in order to streamline and improve our publishing efforts here.

If the words sound familiar at all to anyone out there who can help us acquire this badly needed software, we could sure use your help in getting this for a Win 95/CD ROM system. The price is $639.95 (which is why we need help)

Also, we are in need of a specific graphics program so that we can begin to improve the website with photos and graphics!! The program is called ADOBE Photoshop. It is readily available at all software stores.

Thanks For The Van

During some hard times this summer, we sold my pickup truck to help get our son, Josh, back into college. I could barely walk then, let alone drive a stick shift and it was a blessing to have it there to use in that way.

The Lord responded to that vacuum by having one of His saints give us a Plymouth van just in time for me to use when I could drive again. Isn’t He faithful and wasn’t that brother faithful, too. Praise God!

This gift reminded me to remind you that gifts in kind are deeply appreciated. We have had recent gifts of computer equipment/software and printing services that have literally kept the ministry alive.

If you have something like an RV, automobile, computer, boat, stock, or other property that you can donate to Saints Alive, consider doing that. If we can’t use it, we can sell it and use the proceeds to advance the work of the ministry. The gift will go to your account in heaven and even give you some tax relief on earth.

Rev. James Powers

1931-1997

One of God’s Mighty Men

My good friend, Jim Powers, went to be with the Lord on May 29th, while I was occupied with my bus accident. Jim was a great man of God for Utah. He cheated death more than once and for the sake of the Gospel battled for souls daily.

Jim was the first pastor in Utah to welcome our ministry and he did it with open arms, loving us, encouraging us always in that sweet Kentucky twang of his and giving us an open door to his church and pulpit. To say he will be missed is obvious. But, he told me once not to mourn his passing but to rejoice at his getting to go to heaven before I did.

To Joycelyn, the family and church. Our prayers are with you. It was such an honor to know Jim and witness the great fruit of his ministry.

Dear <edecker@nwlink.com>

I'm a close friend of Bonnie and J.R. Ricks and I am an exmormon. I'd like to forward my exit story to you and share it with you as I have with 100's of others on the Internet and in my area. I do want to say that back in 1988 I first read The Godmakers and at that time it threw a wrench in some of my "stinkin' Mormon thinkin". But you know, that burning in the bosom testimony was just to hot to dry up and so I didn't get the guts to resign until March 10, 1994. I got demormonized in the Christian baptismal waters and now I'm back in my Lutheran MS church and all is well.

I also have a small non-profit ministry called FREE IN JESUS where I have assisted people to leave the Mormon church and assisted also those families who were devastated when their loved ones joined up with that cult. 99 percent of those I've shared my story with either dropped taking the missionary discussions or even left the church after many years as members or one who went ahead and got baptized anyway but fled after only 2 months of membership.

I am on a helper site at Recovery from Mormonism where people post me and ask for my assistance to save their loved ones from that cult. I get 2-3 letters a day and I have a little baby Christian-type of Bible Study that I share with those who are wanting to get out of the church (about 12 people now), send out daily devotionals, have a ex-cult support group of women which meets every Tuesday night for Bible Study and

prayer requests. So that is a brief synopsis of who and what I am today. Now I will forward my story for your benefit as a thank you for all you've done, Ed Decker and your staff to wake me up to the Truth via your books and videos. Bonnie thinks you're great too!

Dear Ed,

I am writing a book titled, Freemasonry; It’s Impact Upon African-Americans, A Christian Perspective.

Traditionally, most African-American leaders have been members of Masonic lodges since 1774 when the Prince Hall Lodge was formed. Prominent African-American leaders such as Jesse Jackson, Thurgood Marshall, Ebony Publisher John Johnson, Andrew Young and thousands of others have given their lives over to Freemasonry. Even the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s father, and probably King himself, were members of Masonic lodges. It seemed that the late Dr. King was surrounded by members of masonic lodges. In fact, he has spoken in masonic lodges prior to his death.

The African Methodist Church (AME)was developed by Freemasons and many Black Baptist and Methodist churches allow their postors, deacons, etc. to become members of masonic lodges.

Much of the information on Freemasonry that I have received was from Saint’s Alive. However, the information regarding African American Freemasonry was the result of much research and interviews with several Freemasons, including the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Southern Jurisdiction of Prince Hall Freemasons.

I can’t help but think that this grave sin has been passed down to the children of Freemasons. Quite possibly, there may be a very high correlation between involvement in Freemasonry and the multitude of problems that have plagued the African-American community for several years.

Dear Ed,

First and foremost, I want to thank God for your ministry, and for your faithfulness to the one and only true God. I am sorry to hear of your Lung infection and pray that God has restored you to full health.

Over the past several years, my wife and I have come to know and befriend several Mormon families. Their children are our children’s friends and play together almost daily. Out of curiosity, we wanted to know more about this "denomination of Christ’s Church". We knew really nothing except that some practice polygamy. So, when some missionaries knocked at our door we agreed to set up an appointment. Just before they came over, I ran out to the Christian Bookstore to pick up, among other things, a book that was a comparative study of various religions and sects of the Christian faith. I found no such book, but by the grace of God, I did find your pamphlet entitled "Mormonism: What you need to know". The rest is history. At first I could not believe that this pamphlet was genuine, it was simply too absurd.

However, you quoted their doctrine to prove their beliefs in such heresy.

That added some credibility to your claims, however, as I am much like dear Thomas, I was still doubtful. When the missionaries came over (last Friday night), to my astonishment, they verified that the pamphlet was right. How wrong I was! I am shocked by their belief and outraged at their deception.

They did say that Christ did atone for their sins as well as for the sins of Adam. However they were a little wishy washy here. I was not adequately prepared for the encounter, although I would have only seen their outer sheep’s wool had it not been for reading your pamphlet.

As I look back on the experience, it seemed as if my life has been a journey not unlike climbing a mountain. Sometimes I struggled, sometimes falling (always to be caught by Jesus’ hand), and sometimes just resting and enjoying God’s creation. This most recent experience feels like I have reached a bluff only to overlook at the adjacent valley of Armageddon. Here the very battle of spiritual warfare is raging, has been raging, and continues to rage, so close by, but just out of my sight. The image of that spiritual battle was now plain to see, not only in my own sinful heart where I struggle daily; Now, Satan and his works are as vivid as the first piercing rays of the rising sun. I am still in shock though it has been several days now since the encounter. I have just seen the gnashing teeth of the wolf who was so cleverly disguised as a sheep of Jesus’ flock.

By God’s strange and mysterious ways, our sermon on Sunday, as well as the Bible Readings were about the hidden spiritual battle, and putting on the armor of God in defense against it. Coincidence? I think not.

Now, my heart turns toward the ones who are caught in the grips of this deception. I have downloaded much of what I found at your web site and at other sites. I am currently reading, studying and praying in preparation for my next visit with the missionaries and for witnessing to my Mormon friends.

I have never been much of an evangelist. Please keep me and them in your prayers. Thank you for opening my eyes to this heresy, and helping me through the grace of God so that with God’s help hopefully I can help others.

Together in Jesus Christ,

Spencer L.

Mr Decker,

I am writing to formally thank you for writing your book THE GODMAKERS. I read it about 10 years ago (approx) and basically disregarded it...but it stayed in my bottom drawer AND in the back of my mind. Every fast and testimony meeting I thought of it. Every Sacrament meeting I thought of it.

Every Homemaking meeting I thought of it. Eventually I was thinking about it all the time! My heart was softening and letting my MIND think for itself. Finally, I have been able to free myself emotionally and spiritually from this church. (thank you, thank you, thank you)

I was a member for more than 20 years. True-blue Mormon. Something has clicked inside and now I am searching for the truth. I have 4 children (the oldest is 14) that I now need to set a new path for. The internet has been such a wonderful source of information for me! I can’t believe that there are other Mormons out there that are having the same doubts that I have been having! It’s such a miracle that I found this site!

Thank you for being brave enough to put into words what you knew was the truth! I will always be grateful to you for being the one to shine the light on this false religion.

God Bless you in all you do.

Sincerely,

Angela H.
