JUNE-SEPTEMBER 1996
A NOTE FROM ED
June through September. This has been a tough Newsletter to get out. I returned from a great 2 week ministry trip through Utah and Idaho only to hit the skids again with my health for a while. That and a ton of work waiting for my return has pushed the Newsletter out by almost three weeks. Please pray that I get back on schedule, with all my strength returned. There's so much to do!
On the trip, so many people came up after the meetings to tell me how vital Saints Alive was in their salvation and ministry to their own loved ones. I was so immensely blessed.
The Video offer this month is a 1 hour TV program [in Pocatello, ID] in which Jim Spencer and I shared why Mormonism cannot be compatible with the Bible. I'm excited we can offer it to you!
We are making a few changes with the quality and distribution of the Newsletter. Our in-house printing has been really bad lately and we came up with a local printer who will produce the kind of two color quality we want at a cost almost comparable to our own.
However, in order to lower the net cost, we are going to have to cut back on the larger distribution of free newsletters. We will still provide the Newsletter to all our donors, buyers and to those on fixed incomes, etc. and still give a one year subscription to all newcomers
But we need to tighten up and cutback by at least 3,000 Newsletters to those who could help out but don't.
Please, if you are in that category and want to receive the N/L, send in a gift of $15 or $20 to cover the cost. Otherwise, please help us be good stewards and return the enclosed card and remove your name from our list.
Starting this fall, we will do the new Newsletter monthly and cancel the Update Report that filled in the missing months for our donors. With the new process, the cost is about the same. That's good News!
We want to encourage you with the news that the ministry here is truly bearing fruit, not only through us, but through the scores of other ministries we service with our materials and counsel. Last week, I finished two new booklets on Mormonism and Freemasonry for Harvest House. They plan a major distribution of both. Also, my [ and Ron Carlson's] book, FAST FACTS ON FALSE TEACHINGS will soon go to print for mass distribution to pastors and workers in Central and South America! PTL!!
We so appreciate the prayers and gifts of those of you who choose to partner with us in this vital work. Please, if it's been a while since you have helped us financially, pray about a gift today.
THE OTHER BIT OF GOOD NEWS....... LIVE!!! .On the Internet
We are going on the Internet this month and should see the distribution of our materials increase substantially. Remember that the reason for our work is to provide material on
cultic religious groups and the need for financial help is so that we can do this.
On the Internet, most of our material, including the Newsletter and many research files will be free. Those books, videos, etc. that are copyrighted will be in the Bookstore portion of our WebSite and available for purchase, just as it is in our catalog.
We want to welcome the Internet browser and those with a specific need. We will have a communications page set up also so that you can comment or ask questions. Great stuff!!
This Newsletter, normally formatted in Pagemaker and looking like a Newsletter, is being produced for the Internet in Microsoft Word 6.0 for Windows. Hopefully, I'll learn to do a prettier job of it as we go along.

New Video Presentation
IS MORMONISM COMPATIBLE
WITH THE TEACHINGS OF THE BIBLE?
A vital 1 hour Video teaching on the Biblical look at Mormonism with Ed Decker and Jim Spencer, was presented on TV in Pocatello, Idaho in late July, 1996.
This is a must have video for anyone interested in the ministry of truth to the Mormons. Ed and Jim were given 1 hour of TV time on the Pocatello Cable network to respond to a Mormon presentation of their compatibility with the teachings of the Bible. Cost is only $20 plus S/H.

What a Difference!
Spotted something in the last MORMON OUTREACH QUARTERLY I had forgotten long ago. In
the Bible published by the LDS Church, on page 1421, Mormons read that "God
"Justifieth the ungodly" (Romans 4:5). But, on page 809 of the appendix in that
Bible, it records how their prophet Joseph Smith rewrote that verse in his Inspired
Version of the Bible. It reads that God "Justifieth NOT the ungodly."
That is a very big difference! The Mormons must earn their righteousness by their
works. How sad! Ask the Missionaries to explain that "irreconcilable
difference" with orthodox Christianity.

Finally Found
An Honest LDS Patriarchal Blessing
Those of you who are former Mormons or who remember my article on this subject a while back know that worthy Mormons can go to a church patriarch [within the regional or Stake structure] and receive a blessing and a foretelling of that member's future within the "kingdom."
In talking about this man and a wife to be, Ray E. Davis, patriarch of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Stake, came up with this: "You will also have an opportunity to kneel at the altar in the holy temple of God across from the one that you have chosen for an eternal mate and there be seared for all time and eternity and thus form the basis for an eternal family." [ed: not too hard to believe when prophet Joseph Smith described the presence of the Mormon god as a place of eternal burnings]

Journey To Kolob
As I reported in the last Update Report, I was digging through some old files last month
and I came across a real find. It was the screenplay layout for a new movie called, "Journey To Kolob." It begins with UFOs and the story of a religious group that looked more like Battlestar Gallactica than an American church.Well, both the UFOs and the title ended up on the cutting room floor and the movie, The God Makers emerged from the ashes.
If you would like a copy of the original script, send in a gift of $10.00 or more for the ministry [Use Bookstore] and ask for your copy of a little bit of our early history. I think you will enjoy it!

Gleanings From The Mail
Dear Ed,
I have greatly appreciated your newsletter as it always contains useful information. But no newsletter contained more information for me than the May-June issue of 1996. About 5 months ago, I led a man to the Lord. [ed note: the man's daughter was studying to become a Mormon and came for a visit. Ken was asked to minister to her} .I wanted to tell you this story because I walked her through your "Mormonism Teaches" list, item by item. She was bothered by some of what I challenged her with concerning the false teachings, but as time went on she finally came to a place where she could not argue with Scripture and she finally surrendered. The Lord was very gracious through the whole time and with a heart that truly wanted to know Jesus, she prayed to receive Christ as her Savior. So, I encourage you to keep up the good work and to continue supplying us with your solid teaching materials,.......Ken D.

The following letter is from an ex Mormon who has been witnessing to his LDS friends with some our material and The God Makers video. The first part of the letter shared one of his witnessing experiences and concludes,
"Please don't ever think your ministry isn't worth it. If it wasn't for you, I would still be lost and oppressed. I believe that the God had a big part in helping you and the others produce those movies. They help rip away that disguise of deceit. I know how dangerous Mormonism is . It's extremely spiritually and emotionally oppressing. My life was horrible because of it. But, now I'm free. God bless you, ....Daniel M..

Dear Saints Alive, I just want to take the time to express my appreciation for an organization that is available and consistent. The support your newsletters and other information have helped me so much, even your 800#. The May-June newsletter was just what I needed. I just got out of the Mormon church a year ago. My life has been so much happier and healthier once I learned what Jesus did for me and how His gift works in my life.
I am now a Christian and, believe me, I know the difference. (She shares a story of terrible abuse and condemnation from the Bishop as she sought help with her husband.) Again, thank you for your newsletter and materials , and for giving me an outlet to release my pain... Renee K.

Et Tu, Gary...
Dr Gary Leazer was the man in charge of the Southern Baptist Church's study on Freemasonry. He was caught conspiring with the Masons themselves in the preparation of the report and removed from that position because of the conflict it raised. Even still, the powers that be used his "study" as the basis of the report submitted to the National Conference for its approval.
We said then that Dr. Leazer showed more than a passing defense of the craft. His recent book, FUNDAMENTALISM AND FREEMASONRY/ THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST INVESTIGATION OF THE FRATERNAL ORDER is a defense of the Masons and strongly condemns the many brethren who have spoken out against the craft, from those like Gary Kah who look at it from the One World government perspective to those like me who look at it from the spiritual darkness it wallows in. May the Lord have mercy on you, Sir.

BOB DOLE AND JACK KEMP
33RD DEGREE MASONS
As a conservative patriot, I am between a rock and a hard place. I am not going to use this Newsletter for political purpose, but I must tell you that it is a sad day for the Christians in this country when we have to choose between the present, corrupt administration and two 33rd degree Masons.
If there were ever an open attack on this nation, we would all be in arms, but the one
world plan of the power brokers and the Masonic brethren of the 33rd degree is going
to slide right through the side door. The Masonic voting bloc will bring 12 to 15 million
votes to the table, enough to control the election. America, Beware!

Things I read in the Newspaper
that just don't make sense to me
A 2/19/96 article in the Idaho Statesman
[but written by Larry Stammer, LA Times] stated" ...[the] Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints has never been more robust or influential than it is to day in the society that once scorned it [ed: and it, in turn scorned society vigorously]. But a great theological divide still separates Mormon beliefs from orthodox Christianity... When it comes to traditional American values... Non-Mormons increasingly are placing the Mormons firmly in the American Mainstream."When you can't tell the difference between the cult and the culture, it's no longer a cult," said Jan Shipps, [ author/expert on Mormonism] a Methodist and professor emeritus of religious studies and history at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis." [ed: Wha?]
Dear Jan Shipps....wrong, wrong, wrong! A cult is a cult is a cult until it changes its theology and repents. Not because the world is so bad the cult is starting to look good or that their PR people are earning their money.

Salt Lake Tribune, Page C1, 7/20/96 "Apostle Speaks of Faith/LDS Leader [Neal] Maxwell wary of adulation, Peggy Fletcher Stack.... had this little comment in it :
"Representing the [LDS] church, Maxwell is at home with both the exclusive claims of Mormonism and the common ground it shares with traditional Christianity." [ed; Huh?]
Dear Peggy, sorry but that just ain't possible, unless Maxwell has forgotten the vitriolic, exclusive message of the restoration from the Lord at the "first vision" and from every Mormon prophet since.

Taking a Stand
Resolution on Freemasonry at
Carr Lane Southern Baptist Church
One Church, its membership and spirit decimated by the battle with the controlling spirit of masonry within, decided that the removal of 4 pastors by the Masons in 5 years was enough. The bold Christians in the congregation took a stand for Biblical truth and presented this resolution to the remaining body of believers left in the church:
"The Scriptures plainly teach us that a spiritual battle goes on around us and in our lives daily, and we are to be armed by the whole armor of God to protect us in this battle. Ephesians 6:12 tells us "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Therefore, in order that our congregation remain pure of the influence of those rulers of darkness, it is proposed as follows:
"That any member of our congregation who is involved in any of the following from this point forward, not be allowed to hold office, teach, preach or exercise any authority among the congregation until such time as said member's association with any of the following has been severed and disavowed before the congregation, in public proclamation and in stated rededication to Jesus Christ, our Savior and the Holy Word of God. (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
1. Any religion or social organization that requires the tolerance of embracing polytheism (worship of many gods) by its members. (Deuteronomy 5: 7; Matthew 10: 32-33)
2. Any organization that embraces occultic activity, uses witchcraft symbols or Eastern religions as basis for their ceremonies. (Exodus 22: 18-20; 2 Kings 21:6; Acts 19: 18-19)
3. Any organization that requires the swearing of oaths, including but not limited to blood oaths of secrecy. (Matthew 5:33-37; James 5: 12, Exodus 20: 7)
4. Any organization that requires swearing oaths of secrecy and cannot be held up to the light of day for all to understand and judge. (Luke 8: 16-18; John 18: 20)
5. Any religion or social organization that proclaims Jesus Christ to be less than the Son of God and on an even plain with Mohammed, Buddha, Osiris, Jaobulon, Plato or any other so-called prophet. (John 1: 1-4; John 8: 58; John 10: 30; John 17: 5; Acts 4: 12; 1 Timothy 2: 5)
6. Any organization that espouses New Age beliefs or beliefs contrary to the gospel concerning abortion and homosexuality. (Psalm 139: 13-16; Jeremiah 1: 5; Deuteronomy 5: 17; Romans 1: 18-32)
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the bylaws of Carr Lane Southern Baptist Church be amended to include all the foregoing.
We have heard from the church since this was received and delight to tell you that this resolution was passed unanimously by the remnant believers and that the church ministry is moving ahead in Biblical fashion, people are being saved and added to the family of God. We pray for the blessings of God for these brothers and sisters as they now must stand against the slander and vengeance of those Masons who once controlled that church.

Breaking Free
God's Word says it is not possible to serve two masters.
Anyone who intends to follow Jesus must renounce Freemasonry. The Bible says, " Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"(2Cor. 6:14)Can Masonic Oaths be broken? Yes, on Higher Authority. God's Word overrules and overturns man's word "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."(1 John 1:9)
As part of the process of renouncing Freemasonry, it is important to formally Demit,
explaining to your former brethren that you must now " have no fellowship with the
unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. "Eph. 5:11 [from Word
Ministries,UK, via Mick Oxley]
