A Note From Ed

It is hard to believe that summer is already over, but here comes September. I returned a week ago from several weeks of ministry in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, ministering with my good friend and ex-Mormon ministry leader, Jim Spencer. The trip was a great success in many ways. We spoke almost every night and had several thousand people attend the meetings. We prayed for 500 to 600 people and saw several dozen Mormons come to the real Jesus.

Beyond that, we had great fellowship, encouraging each other in the faith and the work and returned home exhausted but ready for the next round of what the Lord has for us. This is a tough ministry and friends are precious to me.

Your many kind notes bless me daily and I pray for every need you send in.

I read on the paper this week that while the LDS church was excavating the Mountain Meadows massacre area, the bones of 10 men, women and children believed to have been among 120 California-bound pioneers massacred by a Mormon militia and Indian allies in 1857 have been unexpectedly unearthed at the site.

"It was a very humbling, spiritual experience," Washington County Sheriff Kirk Smith, who was on hand for the excavation, said. "It just really touched me deeply. I saw buttons, some pottery, and bones of adults and children...But the children — that was what really hit me hard." (Deseret News, 8/14)

When you think about the number of people massacred in one killing place by other Americans, the only other heinous crime of this mag-nitude is the Oklahoma City bombing. i would guess that more child-ren were killed at Mountain Meadows than all the school killings over the last year combined. Yet, the LDS church is handling this site as their own heritage.

Why? They should be banned from it!

It’s like having terrorists maintain the memorial site of their own crime.

We have been seeing so many Mormons and Masons coming to an understanding of the Biblical truth and getting set free. Juts last week alone, we prayed the sinners’ prayer with 10 separate people on the phone. Please stand with us in this vital ministry. The work never slowed down this summer as is usual but kept steady and actually grew in magnitude. The fall looks like we will be at a dead run trying to keep up.

Your gifts and prayers are so appreciated.

Tonga Missions Report

Jason Decker

The trip was June 21st – July 3rd. I want to say thank-you to all those who supported this trip both financially and spiritually in prayer. This was a nation-shaking missions trip to the nation of Tonga. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the glory of God touch an entire nation.

Our team had been personally invited by His Majesty King Tapou IV, to put on a nationwide Youth Revival. The King is a born-again Christian who has a vision to see his entire nation passionately serve God. He opened all the schools and surrounding towns for our team to preach the Gospel.

Let me start at the beginning. In the early 80s, Saints Alive’s relationship with Tonga began with several mission trips by Ed, Tom Bauer, Dean & Linda Roberts and Clark Hawley.

Early in the 1980’s as the LDS church began to spread into the South Pacific, Ed Decker & Tom Bauer traveled to the Tongan Islands on several trips. This culminated in Ed becoming close personal friends with His Majesty King Tapou IV. Saints Alive also established a Tonga Chapter and office with Pastor Isileli Taukolo. Ed’s relationship with the King continued through several visits to the US by the King. His Majesty visited Saints Alive Headquarters in Issaquah in 1984.

Two years ago, the King became very concerned about the rapid decline of morality and hunger for God in His people, especially the youth. The King commissioned Pastor Taukolo to go to the US and invite a group of young people to come and show them radical young people serving God. This is to counteract the message of rebellion, and hedonism portrayed in movies imported from the US into Tonga.

Pastor Isileli came to the City Church in Kirkland WA, were the Decker’s attend church and I (Jason) just completed a 2 year pastoral internship/training program. Dad (Ed) is also a Care Pastor there. It took 2 years to get everything worked out. It was worth the wait!!

The U.S. team consisted of 60 people, mostly high school and college age and leaders. The team is headed by Pastors Steve & Taffy Carpenter and the Generation Interns of the City Church in Kirkland WA. Pastors Doug & Donna Lasit & Team from City Bible Church in Portland OR and Pastor Jay Smith & Team from Capital Christian Center in Boise ID. God also united the hearts of many Christian leaders in Tonga, which gave us a greater platform to see this revival birthed through the unity of the Body of Christ.

We hosted a Royal Prayer Breakfast with National Leaders and Pastors who minister at many area churches and schools. This was the highlight of the trip as the Holy Spirit moved in a supernatural way, bringing a time of repentance and reconciliation. The reconciliation broke every wall and barrier that kept God’s people separated. Pastors knelt before each other and asked forgiveness for division and attitudes of pride.

The Princess of Tonga knelt down before all the people and asked forgiveness of all the people for the Royal Family’s abuse of power and for not walking in the Holy Spirit as leaders. Pastors responded by asking the Royal family to forgive them for not submitting to authority and speaking badly of them. It was such a powerful time…everyone was weeping. You could feel strongholds breaking over the nation as this was happening.

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place." For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

We spoke at many schools and reached over 15,000 young people. It was so amazing to see all the children and young people. Many of them are raised "culturally" as Christians, but they have no personal understanding of salvation. We saw thousands respond to the altar calls and messages to live radically for God.

Another major highlight of the trip was a personal audience with His Majesty King Tapou IV of Tonga. We had an amazing time of fellowship, giving gifts, music and prayer. The meeting was televised nationally and did much to give our team credibility with the people.

Every day we sent teams of young people to TV 7, the only TV station in Tonga and they did the morning show. Preaching, singing worship songs, sharing their testimonies and encouraging the young people of Tonga to be passionate with God.

This trip is a great fulfillment of the spiritual inheritance made possible by the sacrifice and faith of many in the "old guard" of Saints Alive. Its amazing to see how seeds, when planted in good soil, will produce an amazing harvest many seasons later. We believe this is only the beginning of a new generation preparing the way for the Christ to return.

Again, God Bless you for your support!

Problems with the Mail!?

We have been experiencing some problems with our mail recently.

A number of you have sent in gifts, orders or requests and have called to say that you have never heard back from us. When we check, we have no record of having heard from you. We are also finding that some orders we have shipped have not been received.

If this has happened to you, please let us know.

Something is wrong and we need documentation for the Post office to track down the problem within their system. Because of this serious situation, we have closed the Kirkland P.O. Box.

Please do NOT send any mail to the Kirkland Address and also do NOT use any old envelopes, even ones that have the Issaquah address on them. Some of them have a Kirkland bar-code embedded in them and we may not get those envelopes delivered to us.

We have three valid P.O. Boxes

In Issaquah , Boxes 1076 and 1347

OXYMORMONS

You have to wonder why the Mormons are trying to join local Ministerial Associations all over America right now. It is obviously orchestrated for it to be so common. But, why would they want to be in association with Christian pastors, anyway? It seems to me that if their leaders believe that Mormonism belongs in local ministerial associations, it has lost its reason for existence. Let’s review this from their own position. Let’s go right to the day Mormonism began. Joseph Smith claimed that both God the Father and Jesus physically appeared to him and told him not one Christian church was true. He said that:

"My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join. I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: "they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven…" (Joseph Smith History 1:18-20)

So, Why would the LDS church ever want its local leaders to be part of a group of preachers whom Christ Condemned? What an Oxymormon! Well, if that isn’t enough to make you wonder, listen to what the Book of Mormon says about this same group of Christian pastors.

" And it came to pass that he said unto me: Look, and behold that great and abominable church, which is the mother of abominations, whose founder is the devil. And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth." (1st Nephi, 14: 9-10)

The Mormons say these pastors are part of the church of the devil, part of the whore of all the earth. This doctrine was strongly supported for many years in the LDS temple ritual where we learned that such pastors as these were hirelings of Lucifer and taught "the Orthodox religion" for him. That orthodoxy included salvation by grace and a god who is spirit, not an exalted man, doctrines upon which these local pastors rest their faith.

Why would the Mormons want any part of these organizations filled with pastors whom they believe have absolutely no authority to act in the name of God? Pastors, including even women, who do not have the authority to baptize people or bless the communion table because they do not hold the LDS priesthood?

What’s it all about??

Obviously, the Mormons haven’t changed a single doctrine, or repented of a single condemnation of the "rest" of Christendom. There is some other motive than joining with other "pastors" in fellowship.

The answer is simple : they are on a campaign to infiltrate and disarm the Christian pastors. While they are sitting in these meetings, the LDS missionaries are going door to door seeking to steal the flock while the shepherd is having lunch with the wolf.

It’s a great deal for the Mormons. If the pastors open the door to them, the missionaries can share how they are just another Christian church. "Why of course we are Christians! Bishop Smith is a member of the Pastors’ Association." If the pastors do close the door, the Mormons can cry out that they are being persecuted for their faith. It seems like it is a no win situation for evangelical pastors and churches.

But, there is a simple way out and it will solve the problem every time. Have an application form ready that has the basic personal information as well as a statement of faith that includes Biblical inerrancy, the Trinitarian doctrine of God and Salvation by grace through Christ. Include a copy of the Apostles’ Creed (which is one of those abominable creeds that the Mormon Jesus warned Joseph about)

Sample: "We hold that the Holy Bible is God’s inerrant, eternal Word and is the sole, final authority for faith and practice; that Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son, Almighty God come in the flesh and humanity’s only Savior; and that God’s grace through faith in Jesus alone will gain our entrance into the Kingdom of God. We believe in the Trinitarian nature of God as taught in the Bible, believing that God was in Christ redeeming the world by the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe in good works as a result of, rather than a means of salvation. We believe that the New Testament church, the Body of Christ is alive and well today, called to win the lost to Christ and expecting His soon return!" (Statement of Faith: Saints Alive)

Welcome the Mormon Bishop to the fellowship. But ask him to first fill out and sign the application and then come on in. Call me if you ever have a Bishop sign it. He would be denying his faith, the whole reason for the Mormon Church’s existence.

Let’s not let sheep stealers guard the sheep!

Utah Christian Polygamists

Speaking about Oxymorons, here is one for the books.

From an Associated Press article, Sunday, August 8, 1999, By Hannah Wolfson:

Utah Christian Polygamists Say It’s ‘All About Love and Family’

CIRCLEVILLE, Utah—Stephen Butt didn’t set out to be a polygamist. A decade ago, he was happily married to one wife, busy with his church and working as a cult exit counselor in Maine. Then he met a young woman who had been so abused by a cult, he saw only one way to gain her trust for treatment. He married her.

Now Butt lives in Utah with three wives and five children, ministering to a group of nearly 1,000 around the country who call themselves Christian polygamists.

Unlike the estimated 25,000 to 35,000 polygamists living in the West who trace their roots to historical Mormonism, Butt and his Protestant peers say plural marriage comes straight from the Old Testament.

"We believe that plural marriage is allowed for in the Bible to meet practical, real needs, and this should be acknowledged by the Christian church," Butt said. He points to passages that say David, Solomon and other patriarchs had many wives. "Obviously polygamy can’t be something that’s immoral if God allowed it with these people whom he showed so much favor."

I hate to butt in and pop your balloon, Mr. Butt, but God looked upon that plural wives bit as sin in the Old Testament and judged it accordingly. Just ask the descendants of Ishmael. "He shall to a wild man and his hand should be against every man and every man’s hand against him." Gen. 16:12)

You are just as guilty of sin as the Mormon polygamists you pretend not to emulate.

Dear Ed Subject: Freemasonry How can you judge someone or a group when in the Bible says not to judge anyone (unless you are sinless not cast the first stone). You and everyone have not been in the organization to understand and to know. How is it negative when the Holy Bible is the same and we teach brotherly love in and around our community.

You also need to understand that there are two form of Masons, Prince Hall (for Blacks) and white Masons which we do not communicate with due to their practices that are not the teaching and the guides of the Bible as Jesus would like for us to do. Tierell D. Goodman

Dear Tierell, Please don’t confuse judging people with testing the doctrines and rituals of any group to see if they conform to God’s Word. The Scriptures are very clear that we are to look at the teachings of a man or group and see if they line up with God’s Word.

We are warned that in the last days, false teachers are going to come among us and have the power to lead even the very elect away. We are told to have no fellowship with darkness. Jesus told us plainly that the oaths sworn in the many Masonic groups come of the evil one. That should be enough to send any mason, whatever segment of the order, running from them like the demons of hell were after him and they are, according to Jesus.

The god of Freemasonry is a triune deity called JaoBulOn. That is not the subject of debate. Their own books proclaim that. That is not the God of Abraham, Jacob and Edward. It is a form of Baa’l and those who bow at that altar are not servants of the Lord, but of Baa’l. Even if they bow in ignorance, they do so in darkness. We are again told in God’s Word:

"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 1 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people." Therefore "Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you." "I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." (2 Cor 6:14-18, NKJ)

I am very confused on what you say in your last sentence. "You also need to understand that there are two form of Mason Prince Hall (for Blacks) and white Masons which we do not communicate with due to their practices that are not the teaching and the guides of the Bible."

With regard to any form of Black Masonry, I can only shake my head in wonderment at any group of Black men who would be part of any Masonic organization, understanding that the father of American Freemasonry, Albert Pike, is also the founder of the Ku Klux Klan. Hope we can communicate further.... Your brother in Christ, not, no never, your judge..... Ed Decker ——

*********************************************

Mr. Decker, I know that talking to you and telling you some things is going to be a waste of time because you are so stuck on these things which you think to be true. I am a Mormon, and i am very proud of it. I do have a couple of questions for you, and I wonder if you can really answer them, or are you going to ignore them. [Ed: Hardly. Here I go]

You know as well as I do, that all members of my church, still need to find out for themselves if the church is true, if the Book of Mormon is true. I know for a fact, that you

prayed to find out if these things were true, and for that reason alone, you were a member of the Mormon church, so with in mind, how can you sit there and say the Mormon church is false? [Ed: I can say it because I once was blinded but now I see things according to the Biblical doctrines of Christ, not the doctrines of Joseph. I know now that I fell prey to seducing spirits when I first prayed that]

How can you sit there and say that you need to save the Mormons from themselves, [Ed: I have never said that. Jesus sets people free, not me. I still seek to set them free from lying prophets and doctrines of demons] when you know, or at least knew that the teachings of this church are true? [Ed: I now know those teachings are lies, contrary to God’s Word]

Are you going to deny the fact that you did receive an answer from God? [Ed: YES] Watch how you answer this Mr. Decker, because you do not want to deny what you know as true. You know that is terrible in the eyes of the Lord. I am just amazed as to how many people, including you, that have found out for themselves that the Mormon church is true, and with a little twist of words, and the wrong spirit, they are led down the wrong path and in the wrong direction. [Ed: Or a little bit of truth]

Mr. Decker, I am more than willing to study your church. I am more than willing to try and understand where you are coming from, but belonging to the true church, as i know i am, and you knew you were, it makes no sense to move to another. [Ed: In other words, you will not be willing to look at anything other than your brand of truth] It is not what God wants for us. [Ed: Yes, it really is] You are taking people who are not as strong in the Gospel of Christ, and turning them away. How does that make you feel to know that all these souls will be on your hands in heaven? [Ed: Really wonderful]

sincerely, ProduglSon@aol.com [back at you!..Ed]

The issue of Freemasonry is not new to the church.

During the 19th century, churches from many denominations took a strong stand against Freemasonry. This was due primarily to two factors.

First, a man named Captain William Morgan, renounced Freemasonry and entered into an agreement with a publisher to expose the teachings of Freemasonry. Freemasons went to work quickly to prevent their secrets from being exposed. They kidnapped and murdered Captain Morgan. He was most probably drowned in Lake Nigeria, yet his body was never recovered. What we know of the facts surrounding his death are based on the deathbed confession of one of the Masons who murdered him.

Secondly, as a result of the exposure of some of Masonry's secrets, the church had knowledge upon which to evaluate the compatibility of Christianity and Freemasonry. There was a tremendous public outcry over the murder of Captain Morgan and since part of the nature of Freemasonry had been revealed, many in the church began to speak out against it. The two major issues upon which their objections were based were the taking of oaths, in which each Mason agreed to suffer a hideous death if he should reveal the teachings of Freemasonry, and the fact that a Christian who joined the lodge would be yoked with unbelievers.

The position adopted in many churches was that a member of the church could not be a Freemason. If any members were lodge members, they were required to renounce or they were disfellowshipped. The result was quite good; three quarters of the lodges were closed, due to the great numbers of men who renounced Freemasonry. God blessed the bold stand the church had taken; a great revival broke out and spread across the land.

Since the time 19th century, additional Masonic teaching has been exposed

One of the most effective evangelists of the 19th century revivals was Charles Finney. Before Finney became a Christian, he was a Master Mason. Since the time of Captain Morgan and Charles Finney, additional information concerning the nature of Freemasonry has become known.

When men are raised to Master Mason, each candidate is required to portray Hiram Abiff. In the ritual of the third degree, the candidate as Hiram Abiff, is unjustly killed, buried and then raised from the dead. At the conclusion of the degree, the candidate is given the following summary of the meaning of the ritual:

Then, finally my brethren, let us imitate our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff, in his virtuous conduct, his unfeigned piety to God, and his inflexible fidelity to his trust; that, like him, we may welcome the grim tyrant, Death, and receive him as a kind messenger sent by our Supreme Grand Master, to translate us from this imperfect to that all-perfect, glorious, and celestial Lodge above, where the Supreme Architect of the Universe presides.

The meaning of the ritual is clearly explained: Why are Masons to imitate Hiram Abiff? According to the ritual, Masons are to imitate Hiram Abiff that they may welcome death and be translated into heaven.

Who is Hiram Abiff?

When a man is raised to Master Mason, he is given a small book called a monitor. Monitors are produced for each jurisdiction and are distributed at the direction of the authorities of Freemasonry, the Grand Lodges. The 1946 edition of the monitor used by The Grand Lodge of Kentucky, The Kentucky Monitor, reveals the identity of Hiram Abiff in a discussion of various religions:

All believed in a future life, to be attained by purification and trials; in a state or successive states of reward and punishment; and in a Mediator or Redeemer, by whom the Evil Principle was to be overcome and the Supreme Deity reconciled to His creatures. The belief was general that He was to be born of a virgin and suffer a painful death. The Hindus called him Krishna; the Chinese, Kioun-tse; the Persians, Sosiosch; the Chaldeans, Dhouvanai; the Egyptians, Horus; Plato, Love; the Scandinavians, Balder; the Christians, Jesus; Masons, Hiram. (pages XIV-XV)

The meaning is perfectly clear. Masonry teaches that Jesus is not unique. Jesus is a savior for Christians, while Hiram Abiff is a savior for Masons. The Meaning of Masonry, by Lynn Perkins, clarifies the teaching:

Therefore Masonry teaches that redemption and salvation are both the power and the responsibility of the individual Mason. Saviors like Hiram Abiff can and do show the way, but men must always follow and demonstrate, each for himself, his power to save himself, to build his own spiritual fabric in his own time and way. Every man in essence is his own savior and redeemer; for if he does not save himself, he will not be saved. The reader who succeeds in getting back to the real teachings of the masters, including Jesus of Nazareth, will find unanimity of thinking on this matter. (page 95)

The fact that Masonry teaches redemption and salvation is also documented in the monitor of the Grand Lodge of South Carolina, the Ahiman Rezon:

It was the single object of all the ancient rites and mysteries practiced in the very bosom of pagan darkness. . .to teach the immortality of the Soul. This is still the great design of the third degree of Masonry. This is the scope and aim of its ritual. The Master Mason represents man, when youth, manhood, old age, and life itself have passed away as fleeting shadows, yet raised from the grave of iniquity, and quickened into another and better existence. By its legend and all its ritual, it is implied that we have been redeemed from the death of sin and the sepulchre of pollution. . . .and the conclusion we arrive at is, that youth, properly directed, leads us to honorable and virtuous maturity, and that the life of man, regulated by morality, faith, and justice, will be rewarded at its closing hour by the prospect of eternal bliss. . . The important design of the degree is to symbolize the great doctrines of the resurrection of the body and the immortality of the soul; and hence it has been remarked by a learned writer of our Order, that the Master Mason represents a man saved from the grave of iniquity, and raised to the faith of salvation. (pages 141-142)

Those words, or most of them, are reproduced in the monitors of several states. The 1993 edition of the Indiana Monitor and Freemason's Guide contains most of the passage explaining the meaning of the Legend of the Third Degree on page 154. The Indiana Monitor confirms the universality of the Hiramic Legend in Masonry:

The Legend of the Third Degree. This is the most important and significant of the legendary symbols of Freemasonry. It has descended from age to age by oral tradition, and has been preserved in every Masonic rite, practiced in any country or language, with no essential alteration. (page 41)

The Hiramic Legend is the glory of Freemasonry. . .(page 158)

Freemasonry has a savior named Hiram Abiff. Freemasonry teaches that Master Masons have been redeemed from the death of sin and represent those raised to the faith of salvation. Each and every Mason has portrayed Hiram Abiff in a ritual in which he was murdered, buried and raised from the dead. That ritual mocks the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The ritual of the third degree directly states that by imitating Hiram Abiff, Master Masons may get into heaven.

The Counsel of Charles Finney

Charles Finney renounced Freemasonry. As an evangelist who knew something of Freemasonry, Finney understood the responsibility of the church on the matter. In The Character, Claims and Practical Workings of Freemasonry, Finney wrote:

We are now prepared to consider the question of the relation of Freemasonry to the Church of Christ. On this question I remark:

God holds the church and every branch of it, responsible for its opinion and action in accordance with the best light, which, in his providence, is afforded them. . . If any particular branch of the church has better means of information, and therefore more light on moral questions, than another branch, its responsibility is greater, in proportion to its greater means of information. Such a branch of the church is bound to take a higher and more advanced position in Christian life and duty, to bear a fuller and lighter testimony against every form of iniquity, than that required by less favored and less informed branches of the church. They are not to wait till other branches of the church have received their light, before they bear a testimony and pursue a course in accordance with their own degree of information.

While Masonry was a secret, the church had no light, and no responsibility respecting it. Although individual members of the church were Freemasons, as a body, she knew nothing of Masonry; therefore she could say nothing. . .

But the state of the case is now greatly changed. Freemasonry is now revealed. It is no longer a secret to any who wish to be informed..... Now, since these revelations are made, and both the church and the world are aware of what Masonry really is, God demands, and the world has a right to expect, that the church will take due action and bear a truthful testimony in respect to this institution. She can not now innocently hold her peace. The light has come. Fidelity to God, and to the souls of men, require that the church, which is the light of the world, should speak out, and should take such action as will plainly reveal her views of the compatibility or incompatibility of Freemasonry with the Christian religion. As God’s witnesses, as the pillar and ground of the truth, the church is bound to give the trumpet no uncertain sound, upon this question, that all men may know, whether, in her judgment, an intelligent embracing and determinate adhering to Freemasonry are compatible with a truthful profession of religion.

Every local branch of the Church of Christ is bound to examine this subject, and pronounce upon this institution, according to the best light they can get. God does not allow individuals, or churches, to withhold action, and the expression of their opinion, until other churches are as enlightened as themselves. We are bound to act up to our own light, and to go as far in advance of others as we have better means of information than they. We have no right to say to God that we will act according to our own convictions, when others become so enlightened that our action will be popular and meet their approval.

Again: Those individuals and churches, who have had the best means of information, owe it to other branches of the church, and to the whole world, to take action and to pronounce upon the unchristian character of Freemasonry, as the most influential means within their reach of arousing the whole church and the world to an examination of the character and claims of Freemasonry. If churches who are known to have examined the subject withhold their testimony; if they continue to receive persistent and intelligent Freemasons; if they leave the public to infer that they see nothing in Freemasonry inconsistent with a creditable profession of the Christian religion, it will justly be inferred by other branches of the church, and by the world, that there is nothing in it so bad, so dangerous and unchristian as to call for their examination, action, or testimony. Before the publishing of Morgan’s book, the Baptist denomination, especially, in that part of the country, had been greatly carried away by Freemasonry. A large proportion of its eldership and membership were Freemasons. A considerable number of ministers and members of other branches of the Christian Church had also fallen into the snare. The murder of Wm. Morgan, and the publication of Masonry consequent thereupon in the books I have named, broke upon the church - fast asleep on this subject - like a clap of thunder from a clear sky. The facts were such, the revelations were so clear, that the Baptist denomination backed down, and took the lead in renouncing and denouncing the institution. Their elders and associated churches, almost universally, passed resolutions disfellowshipping adhering Masons. The denomination, to a considerable extent, took the same course. Throughout the Northern States, at that time, I believe it was almost universally conceded that persistent Freemasons, who continued to adhere and co-operate with them, ought not to be admitted to Christian churches. Now it is worthy of all consideration and remembrance, that God set the seal of His approbation upon the action taken by those churches at that time, by pouring out His Spirit upon them. Great revivals immediately followed over that whole region. . .

And should the question be asked, ‘What shall be done with the great number of professed Christians who are Freemasons?’ I answer, Let them have no more to do with it. Again, let Christian men labor with them, plead with them, and endeavor to make them see it to be their duty to abandon it. . . Let them be distinctly asked whether they intend still to aid and abet the administration and taking of these oaths, if they still intend to countenance the false and hypocritical teachings of Masonry, if they mean to countenance the profanity of their ceremonies, and practice the partiality they have sworn to practice. If so, surely they should not be allowed their places in the church. (Charles Finney)

Charles Finney was only one of many voices condemning Freemasonry during the 19th century.

The counsel of Dwight L. Moody

Another evangelist of the period was Dwight L. Moody. Moody spoke clearly on the issue as well:

I do not see how any Christian, most of all a Christian minister, can go into these lodges with unbelievers. They say they can have more influence for good, but I say they can have more influence for good by staying out of them and then reproving their evil deeds. You can never reform anything by unequally yoking yourself with ungodly men. True reformers separate themselves from the world. But, some say to me, if you talk that way you will drive all the members of secret societies out of your meetings and out of your churches. But what if I did? Better men will take their places. Give them the truth anyway and if they would rather leave their churches than their lodges, the sooner they get out of the churches the better. I would rather have ten members who are separated from the world that a thousand such members. Come out from the lodge. Better one with God than a thousand without Him. We must walk with God and if only one or two go with us, it is all right. Do not let down the standard to suit men who love their secret lodges or have some darling sin they will not give up.

False gospels are not new

Since the 1st century, Christians have opposed false gospels. Paul wrote:

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! Galatians 1:6-8

The return of Jesus is near

As the return of Christ draws near, what should we do concerning Freemasonry? Our generation is the first generation to know that Freemasonry teaches salvation on the basis of another savior. Can we fail to denounce the institution of Freemasonry without standing before God with blood on our hands? (See Ezekiel 33:1-9) Can we continue to allow Freemasons to use our congregations as a cover? Will we allow the Lodge to point to Masonic members in our congregations to support their false claim that Freemasonry is compatible with Christianity?

What will Jesus do if He returns to find us standing shoulder to shoulder with Freemasons? Will He spew us out of His mouth because we are neither hot nor cold? Pray for church leadership. Ask God to remove the scales from their eyes. Will Christians ever meet in secret to teach salvation on the basis of another savior? Why then should we consider the man who will not renounce Freemasonry a Christian? Demand integrity and a call to repentance from leadership. Real leaders won't compromise on these issues.

IF I WERE THE DEVIL

by Paul Harvey

I would gain control of the most powerful nation in the world;

I would delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man's effort, instead of God's blessings;

I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the other way around;

I would dupe entire states into relying on gambling

for their state revenue;

I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leadership;

I would make it legal to take the life of unborn babies;

I would make it socially acceptable to take one's own life,

and invent machines to make it convenient;

I would cheapen human life as much as possible so that the life of animals are valued more that human beings;

I would take God out of the schools,

where even the mention of His name was grounds for a lawsuit;

I would come up with drugs that sedate the mind and target the young, and I would get sports heroes to advertise them;

I would get control of the media, so that every night I could pollute the mind of every family member for my agenda;

I would attack the family, the backbone of any nation.

I would make divorce acceptable and easy, even fashionable.

I would compel people to express their most depraved fantasies on canvas and movie screens, and I would call it art;

I would convince the world that people are born homosexuals, and that their lifestyles should be accepted and marveled;

I would convince the people that right and wrong are determined by a few who call themselves authorities and refer to their agenda as politically correct;

I would persuade people that the church is irrelevant and out of date, and the Bible is for the naive;

I would dull the minds of Christians, and make them believe that prayer is not important, and that faithfulness and obedience are optional;

I guess I would leave things pretty much the way they are."

Charges and Accusations Against Ed Decker

The following article discusses the many and often recited accusations that Ed Decker, Founder of Saints Alive, was excommunicated from the LDS church for adultery. A book about those and other accusations has been written about Ed, and Dana Robertson, a former Mormon has responded to those charges. We print it here for the single purpose of letting every thing be open to the air of evidence and truth.

Ed appreciates your questions in this matter and has added a few notes of clarification to Dana’s article. It is Ed’s position that the issue has been properly dealt with and he has no interest in pursuing matters any further.

Who's Deceiving Who?

A Look At The Works Of Robert And Rosemary Brown Pt 1.

"You might say that out of their own mouths they convicted themselves."
Preface i, They Lie In Wait To Deceive Vol IV

by

Dana Robertson
exmormonrobertson@yahoo.com

For those who aren't familiar with the Browns, they are two members of the LDS Church, who have been publishing a series of books known as "They Lie In Wait To Deceive". These books purportedly show the lies and deceit, they claim anti-Mormons use to tear down the church. They state: "The goal of these authors in each book is to reveal the false motives and designs of those who must use every form of deceit to fight the Lord's Church." (TLIWTD Vol. IV, preface ii) It is my intention over the next few pages, to examine these claims and to test the validity of them.

I want to first take a look at some of the accusations made about Ed Decker in Vol IV. When the book takes a look at the reason Ed leaves the Mormon church, the authors uses an affidavit given by Ed's former wife, Phyllis Ray Montinari Decker Danielson, to imply that Ed was excommunicated from the church for reason of adultery and alcohol abuse. I say imply, because the Browns never make that statement directly themselves. These accusations appear only in the affidavit itself. If this were true, you would have to ask yourself why.

Well I do know why. This isn't the first time I had heard these accusations. As a member of the church, I recall missionaries making this claim all the time. This was their way of not having to deal with the truths Ed's ministry has revealed about the church. (See Letter from ex-Mormon Bishop in last Saints Alive Newsletter, apologizing to Ed for spreading what he knew were lies about him) It was their contention that because Ed was kicked out for all these bad reasons, then we (the members) didn't have to give him any creditably, because he was only doing this to get revenge against the church. Well, after I had became saved and left the church, I inquired about this topic with my friends at Saints Alive. All they did was give me a copy of Ed's Excommunication letter and that answered everything. I will be showing you a copy of this letter a little further down, but I have something for you to see first.

When I e-mailed Ed Decker to get a copy of that letter, he also made some comments about this issue. I think you should read what he has to say on his own behalf.

Subject:RE: Robert & Rosemary Brown

Hi Dana... I think I already sent you my excommunication file from my Stake High Council Trial. The one thing the Browns have is an affidavit from my ex-wife. We have been divorced for over 30 years. I was not divorced or ex-communicated for adultery as they claim. Nor was I ever disfellowshipped....for any reason. My divorce records do not say that, nor do my excom records.

I was an active Mormon for 7 years after my divorce and after I remarried. My son, Jason (second marriage) was blessed in the LDS church 6 years after the divorce.

The affidavit the Browns have printed is a lie from an angry, spiteful person. She has been married 3 times, and lived in open adultery with her now third husband, as his wife, while he was still married to another woman with 5 children. I pray for her salvation as she is the mother of 5 of my own children...

My children by that marriage are very close to my wife, Carol and me. We see and talk to them almost daily. Except for one daughter who lives in VA, with her Navy husband on duty there, all the children live within an hour of us here in the Seattle area.

I have been a very public figure for over 20 years in a very controversial ministry, where even other Christians have attacked me personally and this work regularly.

I have been called every kind of name, accused of every kind of evil. But, my soul still cries out every day for the lost. I am an involved member of a local church, under the authority and headship of a senior pastor and the elders of my church.

I am an active pastor and a care pastor in our church, ministering to the needs of the body, visiting the sick, bringing food to hungry families, praying for those who come forward at the altar. I am usually found teaching, counseling the men in the church, and greeting newcomers, passing the communion, and so on. I am visible and very reachable at any time.

I have a very positive and real Christian life outside the Mormon Ministry. I am still in love with my wife Carol, who is still my best friend after all these years of marriage.

What you see is who I am.... And I thank God for my ministry of truth to the lost in Mormonism. To the many thousands of people are going to get to go to heaven because of God's call on my life and the many others who have walked this path with me.

Yes, we have been like a band of warriors, picking and choosing our targets over the years to break down the barriers and walls that have held our people prisoners in darkness. Yes, we have offended people by saying that their prophets are false and their faith not Christian. But which one of the many who were saved through those confrontations of truth in love would still be lost if we didn't care for them enough to tell them?? (Me, for one.-Dana)

God knows and He is the judge, not the Browns.

Bless you in your work.

In Christ, your brother..
Ed Decker
Gal 2:20

First I would like to thank Ed for his contribution. For the members of the LDS church who are reading this, I understand that you have no confidence in any statements giving by me or Ed concerning his excommunication. You see us as people who will say or do anything to tear down the LDS Church. So for the "Doubting Thomases" reading this page, I have the excommunication letter sent to Ed Decker, after he left the Church. If you don't want to believe what we say, will you believe your own church?

THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS

THE OFFICE OF THE STAKE PRESIDENT

Bellevue, Washington Stake

Nov. 14, 1976

Mr. J. Edward Decker

address

Issaquah, Wa.[sic] 98027

Dear Brother Decker:

In follow-up to the High Council Court held on October 21, 1976, this letter is to formally advise you that as of that date you were EXCOMMUNICATED from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This was the result of your request that your name be removed from the records of the Church.(emphasis added)

As we hope you are aware, this action was taken without any animosity toward you by any member of the Church. In fact, our concern for your eternal salvation has increased rather than diminished.

As of this time, you have cut yourself off from any part or portion of the Celestial Kingdom. We must remind you that when the final decision was made, you were the one who requested that your name be removed from the records of the Church. This decision was yours and yours alone.(emphasis added)

Fortunately for you, the days of your probation in this life are not past. You still have the opportunity of making the principle of repentence[sic] effective in your life. How successful you will be in this endeaver [sic] will be ultimately between you and the Lord, but there is no minimizing the long, up-hill battle you have before you. Anything we can do to assist you, working through your Bishop or anyone who may succeed him, we will be more than happy to do. Nothing would give us more joy than to be able to reconvene the High Council Court for the purpose of authorizing your re-baptism into the Church. .(emphasis added)

May the Lord bless you to accomplish this,

Sincerely your brethern[sic]

signed: the 3 members of the

BELLEVUE WASHINGTON STAKE PRESIDENCY

So, what happened?

Where is the part that talks about Ed committing adultery? Where is the reprimand about his drinking problem? In my experience as a Mormon, I have never met a Bishop who didn't act swiftly, when a member who had a temple recommend, was caught committing adultery. This letter was sent 6 years after he divorced his first wife. If there was a problem with adultery, don't you think she would have brought it up with his Bishop? Don't you also think his Bishop would have done something about it?

Ed Comments: There is no legal document anywhere in the world that says that I was divorced or ex-communicated from the church for adultery. Such a document does not exist.  Remember, I divorced my first wife! Not the other way around.  I left the church 7 years later as a step of Christian obligation. It did not remove me!

Now that we've made our point on that issue, I want to take a look at the affidavit of his former wife and deal with the other complaints made against Ed.

  1. "During the first ten years Ed and I were married, we moved twenty-six times"
  2. But look at the reasons, by her testimony it was mostly because he had found a better job, or the job he had transferred him. It sounds like he was trying to be a good provider.

    Ed Comments: I was working for the Boeing Company on the BOMARC and Minuteman missile systems..  My job involved  set up and installation of missile sites and systems and we DID move with the job a lot.. Many moves involved promotions and pay raises.. That is what I did for a living...  We went from one Air Force base to another for quite a while...often we would get a quick apartment in the area where I was transferred, while I went there to begin the job, and when the family would arrive, live in the apartment until we found a house to rent and that is why the numbers seem higher than they should be.   We actually enjoyed it, it was fun for the whole family........

  3. "He had been sending the children an allowance, but upon his marriage that stopped. Two years later Ed took me to court to lower the child support"
  4. If he had stopped making child support payments, how could he get them lower than $0.

    Ed Comments: We never stopped the payments and also bought almost all the kid's' clothing, paid for all special classes and after school programs.  We had the payments lowered because it had been originally set up to include a form of alimony payment but I was foolish not to have that set out from the child support.  After she had been remarried, we went back to court and they changed it without a problem, because as child support, it had been far out of range for the norm and for what my income was. While I was remarried and faithfully paying through all the years, one day we had a police detective stop at the house to serve some kind of papers for failure to pay child support. I asked him what on earth he was talking about and brought out a box in which we kept all the receipts of the cashier's checks we sent every month. He shook his head and Said something like, "Oh, wow!" and asked if he could borrow them for a few days.

    She and her 2nd husband, in Boulder, Colorado, had been claiming I sent them no money and were collecting from the State through ADC. She was arrested and indicted for fraud, stealing from the State of Colorado.

    That's the lady who said I stopped paying when I got married again. The one who said I was the one only interested in money. We even sent money to her during the summer visits and when one daughter didn't even live there any more. We did stop paying when one daughter refused to return to her mother one year and she made a big deal over that, even though the child lived with us.

  5. "Ed has enticed all of our children to go to him with money and gifts that I could not afford."
  6. First she claims that he tries to avoid giving any money towards his children, then he tricks them away, by giving them too much money. Also what I find curious, is how easy it was for Ed to get custody of the children, and how eager they were to stay with him. Does this sound like a person who is a bad father, as she is implying?

    I only had full custody of one of my older kids, another one had run away from her mother's home and was on her own quite early in life. Three lived with her through high school.  None live anywhere near her and they only see her once a year at best..

  7. . "I have always encouraged my children to love their father even if they disapprove of what he does."

It must not have taken too much encouragement, the majority of them live near him even today. I can find no evidence that they even show disapproval.

Most of my older kids think what I am doing is great. The one holdout understands why I do this but wishes what I do could be done somehow less confrontational.

I have never personally seen Ed Decker interact with his first 5 children. But I have seen him together with his son Jason. Everything I've seen, shows me a relationship between father and son that is very much based on love. As for a drinking problem, today Ed is under no regulations given by the word of wisdom. So Ed has the freedom to drink if he wanted to. But I have been to his home several times and I have never seen any signs of alcohol in his house.

Now maybe the Browns never had the opportunity to see Ed's excommunication letter, but they do give evidence that maybe Ed's ex-wife was not telling the whole story, I'll give you an example:

"Think about it-why would Ed Decker and Dick Baer, both apparently excommunicated from the LDS Church because of immorality, be interested in your spiritual welfare?"(TLIWTD Vol IV Page 225)

If they were so sure of the evidence against Ed why does he use terms like "apparently"?

Finally the Browns gave us a challenge concerning Ed Decker:

"Ed Decker's major contribution to society seems to be an anti-Mormon film called THE GODMAKERS. As you have seen, it is no contribution at all. Decker is the head and leader of an organization called Ex-Mormons for Jesus, or Saints Alive. Compare Decker's life and leadership with a true prophet and leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." (TLIWTD Vol IV Page 229)

Oh thank you, I would love too!! Lets see, I'll pick-JOSEPH SMITH!!

1. Ed is accused of committing adultery. Smith was accused of having celestial sexual relations the wives of the men who went on a mission for the church. Winner: Joseph Smith!
2. Ed is accused of never paying back $250 he and his first wife borrowed from his former in-laws. Smith was accused of painting bricks the color of gold and starting a phony bank with them in Kirtland Ohio. Winner: Joseph Smith!
3. Ed is accused of having a drinking problem. Smith who claimed that he received a direct revelation from God not to drink or smoke, drank and smoked! Winner: Joseph Smith!
4. Ed is accused of moving a lot in his first marriage. Smith was ran out every town he moved too. Winner: Joseph Smith!
5 And finally some things Ed Decker has never been accused of: Marrying a fourteen year old girl, planning the murder of the Governor of Missouri, destroying a printing press, or claiming he had done more for the Gospel of Jesus Christ-then even Jesus Christ. The Winner: Joseph Smith!!!!

I only bring up these points to show that if you want to discredit Ed or any other so called Anti-Mormon and the bases of character, then give the same test to the leaders of the LDS Church first.
